Basketball strength of schedule

Collegerpi.com has Duke listed as having the #1 SOS, UK is #3, and the Vols are #27. I realize that Duke is in the ACC, but I don't see how that alone nets them the toughest schedule, and I think there is no comparison between UK and UT in terms of scheduling this year. I read the line on the VN home page from the KNS that mentioned the Vols' SOS and decided to check it out. Butler and UNC on neutral courts, Memphis, Oklahoma State, and Texas at home, and Ohio State on the road, and then the SEC. #27??? Give me a break. :mad:

I just checked, and, yeah, Murray State and Louisiana-Lafayette are ranked very low so far. I think that SOS should be based on how many good teams you play rather than getting into a battle of whose cupcakes are bigger and tastier. RPI is a formula though, so it considers everything. I suppose the NCAA selection committee will consider the number of quality wins a team has more than how low a couple of cupcakes turned out to be. At least I hope so.

We haven't played Ohio State yet, so throw that out.

Also, the season hasn't been just those 5 games. There have been games against some terrible competition.

The RPI is constantly changing as the year goes along, so the TOSU game and the SEC schedule isn't included into our current RPI numbers. While I am surprised that our RPI isn't higher right now, it'll be fine by year's end.

not anytime in the near future no. The ACC is too established. with Duke and UNC, they have a firm grip on that label. Players go to Clemson, Wake, GT, and other ACC schools just to say they played ACC ball and experienced the Dean Dome and Cameron. Kentucky is up their with Duke and UNC, but no one else from the SEC. The ACC-Big 10 Challenge helps tremendously as well. That and ACC wednesday night basketball on ESPN. ps, no espn doesn't hate us, those wednesday night games are some of the most exciting week in and week out.

The ACC-Big Ten challenge usually has some marquee matchups. The SEC needs to be involved in something like that. They have something starting next year, I think, with the Big East, and there could be some nice matchups from these two conferences, but I think an SEC school is just matched with a Big East school one time over a three or four year period and at neutral sites. That doesn't even sound that appealing.

yeah we should do like a yearly challenge game with like the Big 10 or Big 12 if we cant get something doen with the ACC or BE
