No surprise. People are pumped for basketball. Pearl's turning football-only fans into basketball fans for one simple reason: it's better to watch.

No, Pearl has just caused a lot more people to jump on the Vol Ball bandwagon. It's only better to watch because they're winning(despite not actually winning anything that will be remembered 20 years from now).

I'm glad everyone has hopped on board and even the new basketball fans that didn't have to suffer through the losing years and hopeful years. Kinda like how so many are hoping off of the football one now it appears.....or just saying they are because of the coaching staff as an excuse. :birgits_giggle:

If you think about it for a minute, it may not be a bad idea. What we lose on lack of football attendance we could more than make up the difference with basketball. Hamilton's brain maybe on to something! He's saying to himself, we play more basketball games at home we could sell more tickets if we move the floor over there after I hammer the VASF for more money to put the top on Neyland. Hamilton? I think I'll give myself a raise for this idea!:eek:lol:

Wrong on both counts, OrangeSquare. They (basketball team) would be fun to watch even if they weren't winning as much. The pace, the execution, the effort, the discipline and confidence they bring to the court make it vastly superior to Phillip's Carnival Act.

I'm pretty sure people will remember winning the SEC on our way to the first Final Four appearance in school history.

Yeah because TBA is always full

It is for the big games.

When's the last time you went to a game there? I was back for the Texas game last year, and it was a far cry from the days of Travis Henry (the other one) or Tony Harris. The place will be busting at the seams this year.

UT hoops will be in the top 5 in attendance this year - again. Not bad for a "football" school.

This is why I say that Hamilton is golden right now, the people who are saying that he is going to go with a possible exit of a coach have taken one too many hits...

I'm with StunnA on this. Wrong.

Remember Jerry Green? They won, but it wasn't nearly as good a product to watch.

Also, proven success for 2 straight seasons, going on 3, doesn't qualify it as a bandwagon anymore. That term applies to people jumping on without a clue as to why they're doing it. I think the 18,000+ who will attend games at TBA regularly (and the countless others who go out of their way to follow them remotely) this year are well aware why they're doing it. And it's not just what the scoreboard reads, nor does it take a high basketball IQ to get it.

I've gone to a few games in the past couple of years (usually around xmas) but I've only been on this side of the country for a year.

I understand big games will pack them in but my comment was more directed at the "dome Neyland" comments. :)

Our average attendance was high but we also have one of the biggest arenas around.

Believe me, I'm not knocking the bball team in any way. I just remember those days where you could have curtained off 3/4 of the arena and it still looked empty. Or when UK came to town and made it a home game. Maybe it's just a little hard to get used to.

I can understand. Those were rough days, but they're gone. UT has nothing to be ashamed of now.

Plan to come back for one of the big games - Ohio State, Ky, Fla., Ark. It's worth the trip.
