how many games will we lose, how far we go in the tourny, MVP, most shocking player, or anything you want to throw in there.

My take- I think we win all the tough games but we lose a couple that we should not. I'll says two regular season losses(guessing Xavier and Miss. ST) Not winning the SEC tournament may be good to get the team's attention for a final 4 run in the tourny.

MVP- that Lofton guy

Shocking player- Chism (i think could be a Horford type player with an outside game too.)

Newcomer- Smith (first team SEC)

This year's Bradshaw- Childress

Bob Marley Award- Duke Crews!

Childress is nothing close to Bradshaw...I hate it when people make that comparison.

your aright. he is a much better basketball player. i jsut think he could be a spark plug like dane was. No one has the heart dane did. Childress will be the closest think on this years team to what Dane was for last years team.

This year's team won't need a leader like Dane. Dane also wasn't a spark plug. With a more experienced PG and roster, a "glue guy" is not what this team will need.

.... If you think this team doesn't need a lader like Dane you are sorely mistaken.

That said, both Childress and T smith have the intangibles to be that kind of leader.

He's not 1st anything SEC...

And they don't need Dane to be the floor general like last year because they have experience, and a solid PG...something that Ramar wasn't until late last year.

several away games stick out during the reg. season.....
@xavier, @ gonzaga, @ KY, @MSU, @ FL and @ Memphis.

i don't think we'll lose them all mind you, but the back to back road trip......Xavier and Gonzaga...over the Christmas holiday is one to watch......

Same thoughts as with every season: they'll win a game or two you thought they wouldn't, and they'll lose a couple you thought they should win.

Right now, I think they lose to either Xavier or Gonzaga, but not both. And I think they lose one game in the Legends Classic.

I think they lose 4 SEC games total - 1 at home and 3 on the road.

I think they beat Ohio State and Memphis.

I guess that's 6 losses.

Let me start off by saying I know absolutley nothing about basketball. I used to play back in the day but gave it up due to my lack of understanding and I'm a stocky 6 ft. 220 pound white dude with absolutley no hops. So my future was bare, to say the least.

With that being said, I think we lose 6 regular season games. Win the SEC Tourney, and lose in the Elite 8 game to get to the final 4.

2 of the six loses will come in the final 3 games of the season when we play KY, FLA, and USC in 7 day span. Also, Memphis will get back at us for last year.

The other 3 loses will be those "Oh what the hells" like Ole Miss last year.

A few thoughts...

(1) A complete home-and-away sweep of both Florida and Kentucky is very, very possible. As in, 50/50. My hunch, though, is that the 'Cats will be a much, much better team by the end of the season than the rather pitiful display against Gardner-Webb.

(2) I would be very, very surprised if UT does worse than 12-4 in conference play, which should be good enough to win the East outright. Playing Mississippi State in Starkville will be tough, as will Alabama at Tuscaloosa.

(3) I think Childress and Crews are going to have a serious, epic battle for playing time. Having not seen either exhibition game, I'm wondering if Pearl plans to do substitutions en masse, as Pitino used to at Kentucky - say, sub Howell, Childress, Crews, and Tabb for the 3 Smiths (or Lofton) and Chism. It's great to finally have the size and depth to be able to do things like that and really wear a team down with our press, keeping fresh legs on the floor at all times.

(4) In keeping with this logic, Lofton's scoring average will be down this year, because he won't be playing as many minutes.

(5) This team has Final Four talent (yes, I said it), but it's not going to get there without some serious improvement at the charity stripe. The last time UT had a team with this talent level, Jerry Green was the coach and we had Tony Harris, Vincent Yarbrough, Isiah Victor, etc. That team imploded. Hopefully Pearl will be able to keep the "team" mentality and not let individual egos and the pursuit of stats undermine chemistry (yeah, I'm talking to you, Tony Harris.)

(6) Hat, what's your take?
