With our basketball program in full speed, and future Final Fours at the end of the tunnel, I have a question.

In football, the measuring stick for success is an SEC Title, say ... every 5 years. If you don't reach that goal, you're failing.

In basketball, what should our goal be every season? Every 3 seasons? Every 5 seasoons? And so forth.

It will change... Right now I just want to be in contention in both areas in basketball.

That sounds reasonable... I am willing to give Pearl extra time to achieve the goals because he didn't have a lot to build on... Before last year, the goals would have been very different, so I can't get too upset if it takes longer than I hoped.

make it to the SEC semifinals and the Sweet 16 NCAA in the next 2 years.

I agree with these. However, I was looking for expectations once we reach consistent top 15 status. Imagine CBP and this squad 5 years from now. What should we expect yearly, then? Because our expectations would certainly be higher in the future, because we're still growing right now.

What would our goals have been before CBP's first season. If he achieves those, it will be hard to not call him a success, at least at the start. however, I think getting a 2 seed exceeded what we all hoped for last year.

the only goal is to make the ncaa tournament after that point you set new goals. Barring some meltdown, they should make the tournament easily.

I think for this team, a sweet 16 birth would be a great finish.

i think next year, lofton's senior year, if Ramar continues his progression as well as our freshmen big men and Cameron Tatum hopefully taking Jajuans minutes (unless he steps it up), I think Elite 8/Final 4 is a reasonable goal. However, we've yet to beat a great team in the tournament, but we will see.

We may need another big man to make a run like that. Crews and Chism will progress but either Childress will have to step up, Williams will have to come in alot thinner and stronger, or we'll have to sign a good JUCO post before I say E8 or F4.

Talent wise, don't think about coaching in the answer to this.

Which team has more talented players. 2006 or 2001.

Just some names from that 2001 team:

Isiah Victor, Tony Harris, Marcus Haislip, Vincent Yarbourgh, Ron Slay, Jon Higgens, Terrance Woods.

2001 had more individul talent, mostly b/c their frontcourt was so much deeper. And the 1999-2000 team (Harris, CJ Black, Hathaway, Slay, Yarbrough) might have had more talent than either.

I care less about conference championships in basketball and more about 1) NCAA appearances, and 2) sweet 16s. To me, anything that happens after the sweet 16 is a lot of karma.

I really, really want us to make it to the sweet 16 this year, but I'll be proud of them regardless. They're going to make us all proud by the end of the year. And the team will get a boost when Howell comes back, if nothing else than he'll provide some defensive energy and rest for Ramar.

I don't think that Jordan will take Ramar's starting spot, but it will just be good to have another guy in the rotation, so hopefully the guys will be more fresh at game's end. You hate to see someone lose their starting spot due to injury, but Ramar has been playing really well, and I think that Ramar was on the way to getting back into the starting lineup anyway, even before Jordan went down.

Yep, Howell will add depth and allow Bradshaw to get back to doing what he does best..

I would like to see some conference titles, and we definitely need to do better in the conference tourney than in years past - one and done. But I'm really more interested in, first, stringing together some consecutive NCAA tourney appearances. Then, I'd like to see us advance past the first weekend at least a couple of times in the next five years. I think that next year, we will definitely have a chance to advance deep into the tourney.

Yep. That's what I was getting at.

Ramar should start, not b/c Howell did anything bad, but b/c Ramar brings new elements that Howell doesn't: speed, penetration, and finishing close to the basket. But Howell will help as he gives Ramar some rest and provides a defensive spark. Also, I see Howell getting more PT at the end of close games b/c of his FT shooting and ball handling ability.
