Basilio Tweet

Tressel voluntarily (LOL) asked the university to suspend him for 3 more games so the 5 suspended players and him can get through this together. How sweet. Another attempt at trying to avert the NCAA's wrath. In his case, unfortunately, they'll succeed, yet, Pearl gets the shaft in more ways than one. This sure stinks. Let's see the NCAA suspend Tressel for a year. No way!

Why would they feel the need to not suspend Tressel? It does not make any sense.

Clay travis has been saying from the begining tresel will not survive. I've read the mails just as bad or IMO worse than what pearl did.
Don't listen to what Clay Travis says on sports. Smart guy and probably good as a lawyer, but when it comes to sports he is in the "know" just as much as anyone on this board. He also said the Big 12 would be non-existent within a few weeks when the Pac-10 was expanding last year, when ANYONE with a brain knew Texas was just leveraging itself for more money for it's own TV network.

Add to that the fact his writing in his books is at the level they would recommend for 8th graders, and he exemplifies on a daily basis that he is anything BUT a journalist (which is what he essentially tries to pass himself off as writing columns for AOL Fanhouse [which is crumbling faster than the Big 12 ever appeared to be], and being a radio personality), there isn't much to listen to.

And if you never heard it, the pathetic method of questioning he subjected Steve Underwood to at a presser when Jeff Fisher was let go by the Titans can be found somewhere online, I'm sure. I don't know how any real beat writers or journalists could ever take him seriously as one?

You really think Tressel will lose his job? You crazy.....

The fact that Tressel and OSU have moved from two games to five games so quickly means that they are scared shiatless of what the NCAA is going to do to him.

"Here's what changed. UT recieved strong word from NCAA that Pear is getting AT LEAST a 1 yr susp. #vols
about 2 hours ago via TonyBasilio.com"

I know a lot of guys on here including me don't believe half the crap Basilio says and rightfully so but I thought this tweet was very interesting. If true, I can see why Hamilton went into panic mode yesterday and probably said something he shouldn't have..

Don't see how this has any validity since Pearl and UT haven't had their 'day in court' with the NCAA.
No way are they (NCAA) handing down anything until AFTER that. That would leave them wide open for all kinds of shiat.

I really don't see how people can think this is new.

There is a huge difference between thinking something will happen and knowing for certain that it will. That said, I'm not sure that the tweet is more than worthless speculation.

Ouch. I'm not sure why you would think he would be "probably good as a lawyer" then. Would you really hire someone like you just described and trust their judgment?

FWIW, I really don't know the first thing about Clay. I'm just confused about your post. :hi:

It could happen. In my practice (admittedly not NCAA-related), it is not at all uncommon for the lawyers to have a pretty good idea of the likely outcome, even well before trial. New facts can sometimes be discovered that will change things, but I'm not sure how any new facts could emerge at this point that could be helpful to Pearl. Presumably, if he had something that would exonerate himself, we would know about it by now.

While UT may force Pearl out before the hearing, the NCAA will hand out no punishments until then. The speculation is just that. The thing UT had better think long and hard about is do we want to keep an AD that continues to make one bonehead move after another. Pearl did wrong and has been severly punished by the school and the SEC. The NCAA rule book is so complicated that all schools make mistakes...but it is ok for Callipari to vacate 2 Final Fours and keep right on coaching. Clean up the money and the academic fraud and let these minor vilolations be handled by the school with guidelines to follow that would be fair.

lol why would the NCAA let something like that leak? No way.

They did exactly that shortly after the Oakland loss. The NCAA president had a bunch of journalists over for dinner and allowed it to leak that "Coaches should be held to the same, if not greater, standard as student athletes" when he was asked about Dez Bryant getting suspended for a year for lying. It's been well known for a while that this would happen.

Calhoun gets two games and Pearl gets one year plus eight games? And the fairness is where?
Exactly. I am fine with what Pearl is getting, I just think it is complete BS that Calhoun got so little.

I don't think some of the adamant Pearl supporters realize that a one year ban is likely. UT would be foolish to move into next season sticking with him with those kind of sanctions.

One year is not gonna make a difference for us. Pearl being gone WILL. Hamilton will not be able to hire a coach of any calibur because of the way he handled the last few day. Not to mention he should be next out. Tennessee basketball will suffer for generations again if we lose Pearl. Pearl will come back stronger somewhere else asd well. We need to stick by him and thumb our nose as the decrepid corpse know as the NCAA. Thye are losing their power anyway. They cannot make us fire him. Thye can make us wish we had. One year is a steal in my opinion. Let Tony or someone get us on track with Pearls system for a year. Sounds good to me!!!!
