I agree. Attending sporting events is actually a pretty good activity, compared to some of the alternative activities students can fall into.

with basketball it is b/c students have to get there an hour and a half before tip off to even have a seat on the lower level. otherwise you end up with an obstructed view... until they go to ticket distribution for basketball there will continue to be low turnouts for non-big bball games.

Why would I wait for over an hour to sit in the upper deck of a basketball game. Especially since when you sit up there you can't see the floor because of the women's basketball banners. I'd much rather watch it on raycom..

Don't think you would have ever made it on our all-night campouts waiting in line for tickets numerous times when I attended. It's unbelievable that you are missing out on some incredible opportunities and experiences while you are still a student. Like Hat said earlier, I can count on one hand the number of football and basketball home games I missed when I was at UT.

Late Feb 1977. Camped out all night in 4 degree weather to get student tickets to the UK-UT basketball game. Then we won the game to win the SEC (tied with UK at 16-2 but gave them their two losses). To this day one of my most memorable experience in college. I highly recommend it if the opportunity presents itself to students.

The reason students are not going to games? The team sucks!!! I have season tickets and so do most of my friends, but I know plenty of people who do not. I asked about 6 or 7 people this week on why they were not going to the game and all of them said "because we're going to get killed!" There is no hope on campus for this team and that's the only reason students are not showing up. Every time someone mentions football someone else brings up basketball and everyone gets excited. That's what you get you have a bad product you're trying to market...

man, take it from a USC fan who sat through 0-21...it definitely can get worse for you guys...geez, you guys win the SEC-E last year and now your boycott your team. No wonder you had some recruits jump ship

Oh get over it. I was shortening the situation/description to one word to save myself some time. But since it bothers you SO much, just change "nerd" to "students maintaining high GPAs that might or might not be able to attend the game and might be too tired to cheer because they've been working so hard in and out of the class room to keep themselves in school".

Things like that happen when you have high standards for your University's athletic programs. Maybe if your University's fanbase considered similar reactions, you wouldn't be SEC bottomfeeders in virtually every sport that matters.

I gave it my all the entire game trying to help our team win. It is pathetic that we have students that are more interested to get on ESPN than us winning the game. The entire first half had the students yelling to get on ESPN the entire game. Damn shame. Then I had to sit and endure an entire second half of drunk frat boy idiots chanting for Jonathan Crompton to go into the game. Its one thing to have an opinion, but they were obviously being idiots and thought it was funny. I couldn't even enjoy watching us lose because they were drunkenly chanting Crompton's name and for Fulmer to put him in the entire time. Other students were cussing them out and throwing stuff at them. I should have punched them in the face. When did our student class turn into a student body without any class?

If you want front row seats. You should be able to show up 30min before gates open for most games and get lower level seats. I don't think the view up top is that bad, else no one would pay to sit up there in the other seats.

this coming season it's not going to be that easy. 2 years ago when we started to get good it was pretty easy because the team didn't have as many student fans yet and TBA before the renovations could hold more students. now that the team is hyped and the arena has down-sized the student section, it's going to be harder than ever to get seats for any significant game.

this isn't true. Orange Nation is the fan club you're talking about but they no longer get good seats. Something about not cooperating with the athletic department. Another note about that, the members of that group are not the "apathetic sorority girls" you speak of, they are rowdy fans. Oh and I happen to be one of those sorority girls but I was screaming louder than the two guys with painted chests behind me at the game last night.
