Basilio Shredding UT Students.

I imagine most students wouldn't think too much of adding $90 for football tickets onto the thousands they are already paying.

EXACTLY my point. They are being immature. Bash me about students who "can't" pay it, but I can't afford a lot of things in life and I don't believe that I'm entitled to them just because I spend money on other things.

If there was a good team on the field, students would pay.

But, if you combine the anger for paying for tickets for the first time ever and the apathy for a bad team, then that = lower student attendance.

This is not a hard concept, but Basilio is simply out of touch with the UT student pulse (not that I would expect him to be).

why is anyone surprised that students aren't buying tickets. that is why they should have remained free for students. they are the only section that brings the noise. to be honest most of the people i knew wouldn't have paid extra for them because they couldn't have afforded to go if they weren't free. if i were there i would be inclined to stay at home and drink too.

There may be some students out there who legitimately can't afford the money to buy the tickets. For those few, I truly feel sorry for them, and can see their outrage. However, I doubt that the majority of students whining about spending $90 on tickets fall into that category. Do they even know what it costs for an average non-student fan to get season tickets?? If the athletic department had worked with the university and simply said we are raising the activities fee by $90, and that money will be going to the athletic department, but student tickets will still be free, I doubt that any students would have batted an eye. Apparently that fee has tripled since I went to school there 5 years ago, so I doubt an extra $90 would have been a big deal.

If there was a good product on the field, the tickets would sell. No need to look to the economics of the situation for 90 bucks. Good grief.

Quality of play notwithstanding, it does not bode well for the current student body.

He's not out of touch at all on this issue. The scenario you paint gives him every right to call the students frontrunning jerkwads, which is essentially what he did.

I'm not saying we care what he thinks or says.

Just that the students are simply looking to have fun on Saturdays this year.

The students don't fill their alloted space with regularity for basketball.

And how many of the basketball games are on Saturdays where students aren't as worried about exams, projects, papers, etc..

If the Alabama game were being held tomorrow night you would see maybe 10% of the student section filled.

We don't care. That's the thing. To us, school is our job. Those people who are paying $60+ aren't full time students. We just care that in our worst season since 1988, we have to pay for tickets.

I'm telling you, when I was going there there was no way I could've afforded tickets...Hell We were surviving on those little instant noodles for 15 cents...Forget the name of them...Parties pretty much from us crashing the frat parties and hoping We met some girls there who's daddy was taking care of them so We could get a good meal and other extras from them haha...God We were scum :eek:lol:

Yeah, those dedicated UT scholars. Far more concerned about their studies than their counterparts at North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas, et al who have no problems filling their allotments.

seems like a stretch argument to me.

You've got to be kidding.
I have always thought I was a really smart guy. After learning that many students can't attend basketball games because they are tending to their academics, I realize the fact I missed maybe 3 home games in the 5 1/2 years I was there for undergrad and law school, and still did just fine, means I am utterly brilliant.

Its the reverse of the "Big Orange Screw"

anyone hear that term before? Well Karma is a b....
Yeah, I bet Hamilton is just crushed that he'll now sell those seats for 4 times as much as he would have if the students purchased them. That's really sticking it to the Man. Power to the people!!!

and if i have you pegged...you can name the 3.

I'm not arguing with you about this because you have never met a poster who you weren't smarter than, so I'll leave it at this. Students are simply not going to go out of there way to watch a mediocre football team if it was for free, and especially not now that it isn't.

What does that have to do with the laughable assertion that the reason for students not using all of their alloted basketball area is their dedication to learning?

Forgive me for not knowing the procedures...(I was stuck in a little place called Beruit during what was suppose to be my college years) So ..........you must show your ID when entering?

You have to slide it through a scanner (like a credit card) and then sometimes you have to show your ID to someone standing on the other side
