Basilio saying CBJ’s people working on buyout

So anyone reliable said this is accurate, he has been told he is not coming back or anything regarding his termination? I know there are several active threads speculating but I do not want to dig through the Gruden thread, Basillo Thread, the press conf thread....who said what?

Gotta put in your thread reps lol. But no nothing concrete other that the coaching search is going on just very close to the vest.

Call me obtuse, but I don't understand negotiating the buyout. I thought the contract language was pretty cut and dry.

Maybe its just negotiating the timing of the announcement and cash flow... but the amount is set, right?

I think it would be whether they fire him or let him resign gracefully. He may be offering to cut the buy out by some percentage if they let him bow out gracefully, which would preserve his prospects for another job. If they stick to the terms, he would just say fire me and I'll take the entire payment and go sit on the beach.

Everyone saying " why would he give up money?". Actually he might be willing to do it just to save face. He is currently being roasted by every news outlet imaginable. There is not another power 5 conference team that is going to touch him as a HC. So before it gets much worse he might be better off leaving on his own at a reduced rate instead of dragged through the ringer. Gotta remember these AD's are pretty close to each other. While yeah 12 million to mostly anyone else is basically lets retire fat and happy. Although for a guy who enjoys being a coach a reduced rate plus help finding another spot might be enough to have him take a slight loss. There is a lot more to this than just letting him go.

If Jones does this, he has pretty much relegated himself to be a mid-major coach for the rest of his career. The environment in Knoxville is no more toxic than it is in Austin, Miami, Tallahassee or Tuscaloosa.

He'd be admitting that he not only doesn't have the skills to coach at a top tier program, but he doesn't have the courage either.

I wouldn't be too sure he's gonna do it. He's likely gonna keep trying to win ball games to the best of his ability because he's getting paid well to do it. I think the players still have his back too and they honestly like their coach. This doesn't have to be ugly.

TIFWIW....I know many of you hate Basilio and ignore anything he says...so, for those of you...stop reading now.

For the curious, he said this morning 10/16 that his sources, unnamed of course, tell him that Butchs family and friends have convinced him the environment in Knoxville is just too toxic and he should get out as soon as possible.
His agent and attorney are supposedly meeting with Currie on the financials and Butch will resign after the Bama or Kentucky game when it’s all ironed out.

* not my words. - Basilios words.

So all those “fire butch” signs may actually help force butch to drop his price just to have less damage to his “brand” ?

IMO it's a silly notion. Take less cash to save my "brand" that's in the crapper. If Butch is smart he hangs in till fired and gets the full buyout. He's already fired, just timing now. Its not like people don't know.

This makes no sense if you think about it for 5 seconds though. Why would he be negotiating a buyout? Basically throwing money away. All he has to do is wait til they fire him he gets paid and he moves on. His buyout is in his contract already.

Family and friends say the environment is too toxic? LMFAO, though i would agree I don't think any of them is that soft. These are not the family and friends of a person that just started coaching. Trust me they can take it a few more months/weeks.

Resigning I think is the worst move he could possibly make an the one move he could make that would make me think less of him. No matter what anyone thinks of the guy he has never come across as a quitter. He seems the type of guy wit ha head coaches ego. he thinks any day he will turn it around as he should that's what any coach should think.

Resigning before the Bama game is absolutely the best move for Butch. The last thing people are going to remember about him as UT's coach is the thrashing he is about to take. For the sake of his career, its better to sacrifice a little buyout money now and preserve prospects at other jobs than take the full buyout money, get stomped by Bama and then sit on the sidelines for a few years.

Pretty well stated. UT is paying him major bucks to coach football and that's what he's doing and should continue doing. Why negotiate when you have a signed deal? That would be a negative reflection IMO.

Not necessarily. In this case, he is coming to UT. UT may or may not be ready to terminate. So, he is coming wanting to resign. Likely to try to find employment elsewhere. In that case, him seeking a reduced buyout so UT will not hold another college responsible for the buyout for him leaving for another job.

This is a 'you scratch my back, I will scratch yours" business arrangement where Butch no longer wants to be at UT, but wants to continue to coach. How can we make this happen? By both parties agreeing to amend the contract with a compromised buyout.

I think this is exactly what's happening if these rumors are true. Having another job lined up and avoiding the offset of its pay makes rational sense as to why you would renegotiate ypur buyout. Save UT money, save new school money, and walk away with lump sum to avoid state income taxes later.

I think we should threaten to have 100k bags over heads at bama.
That might threaten his brand enough to plead for mercy

If this information is not true, then Basillio needs to be ran out of town by the weekend. He is the National Enquirer of Knoxville sports radio

IMHO, his next stop is something like a special teams coach in the NFL. I think the NFL has always been his goal. He's probably better than Dooley... who was able to find a job in the NFL.

I agree, I think he would make an excellent special teams coach somewhere.

Is there a clause in butch’s Contract that he is employed only as head coach?

Otherwise make him the guy that follows Gruden around carrying his visor. See how long he is willing to ride the humiliation pony!

He did "ok" in the Big East with mostly Brian Kelly's recruits. Even in his championship years at Cincinnati he was winning over terrible teams, and still couldn't outright win the conference.

Now he won't either! Say hello D6 Botch.

It will play out like this. After the absolute massacre in Tuscaloosa, Botch will go home and cry like a baby. To the point that he considers ever coaching again. This is where saban proposes a toast with his assistants to" putting another one out of a job".

But Botch, he will resurface as head coach of the University of Northeast Montana State Hissin Kittens. He will lead them to consecutive 11-1 seasons, only losing to bitter rival East Idaho Tech.

Botch will then introduce more slogans and gameday traditions, such as having the fans hiss as the team storms the field...................and they will foolishly cooperate. Thrilled by the winning seasons, thoroughly brainwashed into believing they have the most intimidating venue in all of college football. But in reality its one of the most idiotic ideas ever thought in the universe.

After several winning seasons Botch will then retire, fully convinced HIS system works without failure if teams have good eye discipline, play complimentary football, focus on fundamentals, ride to occasion.

But the way I like Butch Jones the person, but Botch should never coach at any D1 university.

The dude is excellent at self promotion. I don't see him having a problem walking into an Oregon St. or an Illinois or even a Kansas and getting a job. While this year is a blight on his resume, he still had a 9 win season in the SEC.

Let's be real honest here. No way in hell he is getting a job at a UCLA or any other traditional power, so what does it matter if he leaves now or later as far as that is concerned. I just don't see any sane man walking away from millions owed to them at that point. Pride is an awful lot easier to swallow when you have millions of dollars waiting after the gulp. I don't see him walking away from this on his own accord.

Maybe Butch wants more to just fade away quietly. Making an offer he thinks they can't refuse.

If butch is debating fighting for his buyout, they need to hold their meetings on the one yard line.... there you know butch is going to pass!

The SEC East. Let's not build the east up to be a great division.
