Basilio on Sam Pittman

in response to a suggestion of bringing him to Knoxville as an analyst. Never met Coach Pittman but pretty much the opinion I have of him from everything I have heard. Too bad the good guys get fired and the sleazebags like Petrino and Freeze survive.

Secondly ... I'll add one more thing on why I would bring in Pittman. He's a damn great guy who could be a huge asset in that building from a cultural standpoint. Plus he LOVED his time here. In the past day or so (since the writing was on the wall) I've heard from more than a few folks that got to know Sam when he was here, that LOVE the guy. He's class personified. I'd jump at the prospect of hiring him. I wouldn't hold your breath on Heupel hiring him though ...
He said last year when he left Arkansas (fired or willingly) he would immediately retire. This has been as set-up since the day Bobby Petrino was hired. Tennessee better be prepared because Petrino will throw the kitchen sink at us. As we know, our defense (especially pass defense) is very suspect.

Archie Manning never played on a championship football team of any kind. It doesn't mean he was a bad QB.

I could go on and on
You COULD. Pointless exercise. Where did I utter he was ā€œbadā€. Furthest reach of my point. Complete opposite. He and Garner were the two I wanted Butch to retain…like everybody else. What’s tiring is this fixation that he makes our program reach another level. OL coaches only recruit to the level of their program. Outside of that it’s development and instilling fundamentals. UGA won two straight NCs after he departed for Arkansas and the Razorbacks didn’t load up on five and four stars with his mere presence. This board had a ā€œrecruiting expertā€ blame every OL miss on Ellarbee and every hit was someone else. 😓

Eberlee has done a great job this year. I mean OL was supposed to take. Step back and we haven’t given up more than a couple of sacks, if any. We don’t have a RB running for Sampson type numbers but we have been splitting carries. And he hooked the #1 OL recruit in the nation.

I don’t get the complaints about any offensive play this year. We replaced everyone but Heard and look a lot better. Perry and Umatov break the ā€œElerbeeā€ hasn’t developed anyone into a starter yet, and Sanders will replace one of them or someone else which makes 3 starters he recruited or has developed.

I think Sam will enjoy his severance package at least through next year…head coach at a D1 school is a 247 job 365 days a year…head coach needs time to decompress. I bet he does go back to coaching OL somewhere - just because he loves it and he’s very good at it…
These guys live to coach............severance or not.....

Pittman is one of the best OL coaches in college football - would be a massive upgrade on the current oline coach. At the very least, Heupel should bring him as analyst.

Good idea but I suspect he’d take the rest of the season off. Pittman has a $9million buyout & is over age 65 I believe. I doubt he does much anymore. I can’t see him going back as a FT OL coach.

He might be up for that but IMO, Sam will seriously consider retirement and no longer spending time with football. He is 63 and getting to that point... JMO
I think he is done. I live in arkansas and listen to the sports talk show here daily. For years it was said that once he is done coaching Arkansas he would retire. He likes it here and I believe he thinks he has done what he can and will retire

Lulz. I figured you said it in response to him being the best ol coach in America.
