Basilio Has It Right

Ok, then tell me this:

What team did we beat that we weren't suppose to?

What coaching decision during a game impressed you?

What has he done here since taking the job that makes you feel he is doing a good job?

Don't worry according to some new poster, Dooley>>>Neyland. All fears should now be alleviated.

CDD may end up being a great coach. I honestly (which isn't that great of news) think he's learning the job this year and will become a good coach. But the play calling so far has been pathetic. Anyone who thinks scheming a game around Simms is the best decision obviously hasn't figured out that we're getting blown out in games due to his picks and lack of ability.

Anyone who is happy with Dooley needs to go look at the recruiting class he has so far. Out of 18 players committed, two are 4* star players the rest are 3*. It's ranked 24th at rivals and the 2nd most disappointing class in 2011 so far.

If Dooley was brought in partly because he can recruit, then he isn't living up to expectations.

How many 4 and 5 star players does Boise State have?

How many 4 and 5 star players does TCU have?

How many 4 and 5 star players does Utah have?

How many 4 and 5 star players does Michigan State have?

How many 4 and 5 star players does Missouri have?

What do these teams have in common? Oh they're only all undefeated and ranked in the top 10.

I could care less about where Dooley's recruiting class is ranked. Lets see how they produce on the field.

....to be honest, i have seen several games(with the outstanding exception of UAB and Ga) in which we were more competitive than i thought we would be, until we gave out....i have never seen a game on any level where i agreed with all coaching decisions, my main complaint this year would be around offensive play calling, and our inability to get defensive pressure on the quarterback....i do not know if that is coaching or personel......dooley may not be the guy, i cannot tell yet, and i'm not buying in that anybody else can one way or the other.....

I keep hearing how we gave out. I'm not sure if some people on here played sports but you don't wear out 2 minutes after half time when you were just fine walking into halftime locker room. This excuse is a joke. We're not getting blown out in the 4th. We're getting blown out in the beginning of the 3rd. This is an adjustmens issue.

Do you follow recruiting?

Yeah I knew it wouldn't take long before someone played that card! VolDad I respect you but I'm so sick of that BS. I'm as big a fan of the SEC as you'll find but besides 2 or 3 teams in this conference, the teams I listed would probably beat the rest of the SEC like drums. We are a good conference but this idea that none of those other teams could compete is complete crap!

Is this guy serious? You and Basillio are such a joke! People like you give Tennessee fans a bad name. Why don't you get out of your mom's basement and get some fresh air and find some patience with these guys.

:machgun:

The offensive line coach is definitely earning his money. The guy is doing a HELL of a job with 4 fr and sophs on the OL.

Recruiting class is better than the stat ranking silliness. Is much better considering state of the program and lingering questions about program directions.

...what about those adjustments when you have 15 to 20 fewer players and much younger players, I guess by your logic we could take someone of the streets and "make adjustments"

Good post! In the SEC you have to have 4 of everything with the exception of linebackers(6). 4 DL's, 4DE's, 4 CB's,and 4 SS's.You know why? Because that is what Fla, Ala, LSU, have to work with. When you're down 12-15 players it makes it hard when the other guys keep running fresh legs and bodies at you with little, if any, drop off in talent. That is the difference between 1st and 2nd half play. It's all about the numbers imo.

So many fans here in denial. Really, you should watch the Vols play a game of football. It will be a painful experience. Missed blocks, poor tackling, in addition to the silly mistakes with # of players on the field. Or how about this one: playing against one of the top WRs in the nation, and trying to cover himi with one very mediocre DB, all game long. It was obvious that Evans had no hope of covering Jones. McElroy and the Bama staff could see that Jones would be open any time they wanted to throw to him. Poor Evans never got any help. Wilcox & CDD made no adjustments - they just stood there on the sidelines and let the guy set an Alabama record for receiving yards. Inexcusable.

Basilio was dead on with his assessment. These next 3 years will not be pretty.

Kiffin even said year two would be a lot tougher given the whole OL was gone, no EB, new QB, loss of depths in several areas due to graduation and attrition.....so even Lane Kiffin can tell that stuff, shouldn't we all?!?

This I totally agree with too. Alot of sleepers in our class so far.

This, on the other hand, makes no sense.

my take is that they are running out of gas(getting tired) in the second half of games due to shortage in manpower and that just helps spotlight the mistakes.

I would like to say the same thing but they came out from half time and let bama make three scores.. I would think coming out from the half they had a little rest.. Something is happening or not at the half!!!

makes perfect sense to me.

you honestly don't understand how having fresh bodies rotate and rest our starters in the 1st half would keep our guys from running out of gas in the 2nd half?

the biggest gap in our roster is between the starters and the 2nd team. Dooley mentioned this in fall camp when he stated that this team has 1's and 3's.

A perfect example is our 3 true freshmen O-linemen (Stone, Fulton & James). You think these guys should be able to walk onto campus and match up with Jrs/Srs that have been in SEC strength & conditioning programs for 3-5 years?

not gonna happen

How hard is it for people to understand that athletes that are fine going into half time don't wear out 90 seconds into the second half. I could understand this agruement if we were falling apart in the middle of the 4th or even the end of the third but the melt down is happening from the first kick off of the second half.

You're right. Why didn't we just put Darrell Revis on him. That would have been a much more favorable match up. Silly coaches.
