Basilio gonna have Lane Kiffin on

He won 7 games here.

He failed at USC.

What has he “won” as a HC instead of an OC?

He won 7 in his first year after a losing season with Fulmer. Lost to a damn good UF team by 10 in Gainesville, took NC Bama down to the wire in Tuscaloosa losing by 3, completely destroyed a Steve Spurrier led SC and Georgia. He did pretty damn good in year 1 here.

From the "my opinion really matters to no one but me," file.
If they were to hire Lane Kiffin again I will not support the team regardless of how well they do.
That jackass raised his middle finger and deserted UT at the worst possible time. He may as well have spit right in the players and fans faces. I will never forget that. That slimy, lying SOB should be ashamed to even speak about UT.
If he had any honor at all he would just off his slimy self and be done with it.
I call bs. The minute he started winning and believe he would, you would hop aboard the lane train.

Please KIffin is a good coach and he would have won big here. All the people on here that question his ability to coach are just mad at how he left UT. I didnt like it either but the truth is he can coach football and he is GREAT at developing QBs.

Although it really hurt at the time, I don't blame him for taking his dream job.

When Kiffin got here we won what 5 games the season before and everyone to this day talks about how bad the program was when Fulmer left and how bad the recruiting was the last few years under Fulmer. I think KIffin did well here for a first year coach under those circumstances. We did win 7 games which IS more than 5. We also played Bama down to a field goal . Crompton was a decent QB under Kiffin but stunk while Fulmer was coach. USC had some probation problems. Has Kiffin proved himself as ahead coach yet? No he hasn't but he will somewhere soon.

So he’s a good HC for almost beating good teams?

Ok...

I wouldn't say anything about moral victories, but you seem to be set in stone. I don't appreciate what he did in leaving when, and the way, that he did...BUT when he was here, Tennessee football looked like it was actually a well coached team. Talent was down, two walk ons on the offensive front and a very shallow roster. You'd still be praising Butch if he had done anything near what Kiffin did.

Do we really want to bring back the guy who:

  • Crashed a rented Lexus while drunk with 2 coeds and then fled the scene.
  • Had an affair with a local sports reporter.
  • Frequently partied with coeds.
  • Had so many affairs that boosters had to rent a downtown apartment for him to try and keep it out of the public eye.

People do grow up, but there is so much bad blood here in Knoxville for Lane. I do believe he has grown up, however the fact is that he did these things in Knoxville, not in SoCal or Florida. If he had done them elsewhere he may be considered for this job. There is a lot of bad blood between him and the boosters not only with these things but also the fact that he left after 1 year which would prevent it from ever happening.

I totally agree with you and kiffin isn't my first choice as coach . The original post stated that he wasn't a good coach and thats just not an accurate statement.

That Bama team won the championship that year too

Hindsight is 20/20. He only says that because he was an abject failure at USCw. If he were still coaching there, he'd say leaving Tennessee was his best decision ever. Admitting that it was a mistake after the fact is hardly an apology. He took the chance to land his dream job. I don't necessarily blame him for that, but I don't appreciate the manner in which he left and tried to take committed/enrolled kids with him. That was low rent.

great post

Being a terrible person is a proven way to get ahead in the world.

And in the wrong circumstances, it's a good way to lose your head. And if it is all the same, I would rather he never returns to Knoxville. Call it whatever you want. I prefer keep Tennessee beautiful.

Which local sports reporter? I missed that one somehow.

You guys talk about Lane Kiffen like an exgirlfriend. He left for his dream job. Any of you would do the same thing. He came into a job on the decline. Salvaged a season and got an opportunity that he couldn't pass up.

I'll never fault the guy for that. Y'all keep being salty and whining but really he left the country bumpkin girl for a LA supermodel essentially.

I'll tell ya now. I love Tennessee to death but if you gave me more money and the opportunity I'd live in southern Cal Any day of the week.

I’m not claiming moral victories but that’s being COMPETITIVE and those Georgia and SC games were impressive for a first year coach. I don’t like the way he left either but the future looked bright from year 1.

Absolutly there are many fans right now that would be happy if we would have just been competitive in a couple of games instead of getting the brakes beat off us.
