Basilio calls out local media

Ergo my problem with calling sports writers "journalists." They are just part of the gaggle of folks promoting the entertainment value of athletics. Though they are not "officially" part of the UT public relations department, if they dare criticize it too much, you want to pull their credentials so they learn their lesson.

Not criticizing you at all, Clearwater, and this scenario happens all the time -- just saying that because of it I just cringe when people refer to sportswriters as "journalists" or "reporters."

Its not about reporting a story anymore. Walter Cronkite is dead. Its about selling papers, page hits etc. The negative sells better than the positive. Maybe its an indictment of us?

I emailed Tony this morning and thanked him for having the testicular fortitude to call these scumbags out.

The Knoxville media is an absolute joke.
I'm glad that CLK has gotten on the scene. He has been a breath of fresh air from the previous Hicks that were on staff before.

Now if we can get the Hicks that are "reporting" on everything UT football ran out of town, the world will be a much better place.

Sorta like refering lawyers as "swindlerers"

As with all Media, they think their above the rest of us. John Adams called for Fulmer's head and now he is bashing Kiffin. He is a talking head like the rest of the 'experts'. I agree with Basilio. The media needs to get on board with this staff!

He is an LSU cronie. What would you expect.

Its because CLK is not a fat redneck from TN. Im from TN, born and raised and am not downing my home state but our media hasnt reached the new millennium yet. They cant handle a young guy from Cali running our program.

Not to mention, our local media has made it point to go out of their way to let us know they are not Vol fans. Its cool to be a CLK hater these days.

Hyams is simply a jackass.

It's like they are overcompensating their ire at Kiffin for missing the boat on Fulmer's firing?

LK needs to run his program more like UM in one respect. If a journalist bashes UM or the program UF will pull his credentials and refuse to give him access. Hence a very positive local media opinion of the program.

The Knoxville media will quickly learn where their bread is buttered if faced with similar options.

think we are spending to much time on the refs calls, and the media when we need to be thinking about SC. we just come off a loss with a game we could have won, nothing we can do about what people say or what the refs do. Get on with next game. GO VOLS beat SC we don't need a let down.

Fans discussing the officials, the media, the worthless former coach, or whatever on a message board has nothing to do with the team being prepared for the next game.

There is a music joke about a drummer that gets called out by the conductor, the drummer asks the conductor if he knows what they do to someone who doesn't have enough talent to be a musician, he told him they take away his instrument and give him two sticks and make him a drummer. Then he said "do you know what they do when a guy isn't good enough to be a drummer....take away 1 stick and make him a conductor"! Same with these pinheads in the sports media. Except for the big time color guys the rest are there because they never could play or coach anyway. It is all about ratings, but for our hometown guys to be bashing Kiffin, considering the incredible boost in our program is about unforgivable! The product we are seeing on the field is many levels above what we have watched the past 9 years, especially in the area of discipline and a winning attitude. Nobody can deny that unless they are a BAMA/UF idiot, or just inherently dishonest.

:hi:Thanks Tony,

I've been wondering where the real-men of Tenn were.
The local media has been bashing UT,the coaches and players for years while the locals set by quietly, and eat it..
sad but true!!

God Is Great!

Quite simply, UT has a program that has not changed since 1995. There will be an asdjustment period fpor the mainstream KVille media too.

The guys that buy in will have access, those that don't will be locked out.

From a personal standpoint, if I was Jimmy Hyams, I would be a cipher for the new program.

It takes intelligence to figure that out.

It just so happens intelligence waved bye-bye to Hyams a long time ago.

The evidence is there, "something fishy" is in the officiating every time Fla or Bama play a game.

What is this "buy in" mentality that everyone talks about. This team oobviously has worked like heck to get better and it is in every way; discipline, no arrests, attitude, they ripped Ga, and they are competing against the top teams in the country. Why would there be any who have not bought in?! I find it hard to believe that anyone can't see a major difference. How about sitting at the games....don't things seems a little more exciting than it has the last 8 years?

One more reason I'll never forgive The Fired Coach.
