Basilio brought me back

Everything about Basillio urks me, from the lousy over the top commercials. The obnoxious characters he throws on the air for those scripted phone calls. How he feeds the answers he wants to hear to the "regular" guests. The throw this against the wall and see if it sticks "breaking news" blatant lies he spews. How he blows with the wind on how he feels about everyone put in charge based on who is on the phone and then plays the bongo drums over top of anyone he doesn't agree with, all while not talking directly to them, instead having one of his cronies "handle" them.

I have tried to stomach him during these searches this round, only because the idiots on 99.1, minus Ainge and Rice, on the other main stations only spent 15 minutes reading the press release After each hire and then move on to golf or other

Bongo drums?

Yes, hes done it a couple times during the last little bit, the latest was while discussing the possibility of Banks (i believe). He has ....... I think Beano is his name..... argue against callers that challenge him with opposing view points (cause he can't) and while they're talking he starts playing a clip of bongo drums over top of them to distract them and get them frustrated so they start to yell and then he accuses them of being confrontational. Just more of the really childish stuff he does.

Your theory is that they are trying to suck this bad? And who is "administration"? The AD has been a revolving door ... as bad or worse than the coaches. Maybe on both fronts, we should try, oh I don't know, stability. If anything, I think we suck because we are trying too desperately to get back to 1998. The last ~14 years of AD/coaching hires is proof enough of that.

Not putting forth the effort to have a successful football program =/= "trying to suck".

Having a "stable" program, run by bad hires, is not the path to football success.

What’s up with all the KISS avatars lately? 😃
Lol they're one of my all time favorite bands. Actually music is a big passion of mine and I've had several music related avatars. I had an Eddie Van Halen tribute avatar for a while. I had a Neal Peart avatar for a while. I love music, probably more than I love Tennessee football.

I’ve only noticed Basilio cranking up the bongos to drown out Mark from Columbus (MarkVol123).

He only does that to Mark from Columbus. It cracks me up!

Could be the one I'm talking about, don't know who the caller was.
Mark has kind of positioned himself as Tony's arch nemesis because he always wants to be critical of the program and he's seemingly not on board with Heupel, Danny White, or any of the moves the administration is currently making. It clearly irritates Tony which is why he cranks up the bongos and drowns Mark's call out. Personally it cracks me up! Tony hasn't had a true nemesis since Cattleman but Tony perma-banned him.

I mean if you want to look at it that way. I choose not to be so cynical. I dont think its "scripted" on a reality TV or pro wrestling level. Tony has his regular callers and they all get different reactions. I've called in a couple of times, but only when I had legit questions to ask him.

I like tony B. I live in alabama so his app is great. His post game shows are the best and calls it like he sees it. He doesn't sell his soul or suck a dic to be on top. He's respectable, and has earned everything he has. The pumpers won't like his show much. He isn't afraid to bring a rumor on the air either. Dude is great for fans that do not live in tennessee . He and swain are my 1 and 2, everyone else can EAD, and I'll never pay 9.99 for UT news with an opinion and agenda.

Since we are on the subject, I'm in Augusta, Ga. The only folks I know to get some home cooking UT is WNML through the web. I'm really not a fan of them in the least bit. Who else should I try for local to Knoxville sports radio? Thanks in advance.
I too live out of state. Get a good podcast app and give these a listen to see if there's any you like.

Locked on Vols is a good daily show that covers news, mostly football, some basketball and touches on other notable news with Vol athlectics. It also has good interviews from time to time. It's half hour episodes so if you don't have a lot of time to listen it's a good go to.
Swain Event is a 3 hour show that also has good info once you get used to reading between the lines of what Swain is saying. He takes the angle of just being a commentator but drops nuggets of insight. Entertaining show if you have 3 hours to listen.
Power T Podcast with Robby Stanley is a weekly show that covers all the big news with UT over the past week. Robby will include his honest opinions while delivering the news, which are mostly good takes in my opinion.
And of course there's Big Orange Sunday with Doug Mathews, which I'm sure you're familiar with. Call me sentimental but as meandering and slanted as Doug is, I still like listening after all these years.
Hope this list helps.

ZR is Phil's Brother. Phil is a good guy, kinda strange, but a good guy.

Yes, ZR. I was drawing a blank. Real name is Perry iirc. TR is the best caller IMO. “Bachilio”.

Beano is level headed. His brother is as well.

GQ Fan is another clown.

Clone is good. Refeletics Judd is good.

The Kappa Alpha “how are my friends and compatriots doing” (Lynn) can be annoying. Brings some good historical info though.

I first discovered Basilio during the Schiano fiasco. Glad I did. He keeps it real and never bashes the fans. He gives coaches a chance but admits when they should go, unlike state run media. Wondering what everyone else thought of him? I have not listened to any other outlets, and I give him props for being independent and successful in a studio in his basement. I think that's awesome. State run would tell you that Pruitt should have been given more time, and they basically ignored a knowledgeable fan base. Screw them for that. He admits his mistakes like his initial takes on Barnes. I guarantee he has more listeners and better advertising dollars than any other show and his post game shows draw thousands on Twitter's periscope. I agree with him that we need a little luck and should give the next coaching staff a chance. Until we shouldn't. I never would have known about how the Haslams and others have been largely responsible for the mess we are now in. I had no idea, and I've been a fan since I was ten. I'm 49 now. One more thing. I know where we are, but I believe we are too much of a tradition to not come back to power. I see a lot of people saying we are done, and that is disappointing.
Basilio is the best sports talk show in the Knoxville market, hands down
