Basilio brought me back

I don’t like it when he brings the negativity, but he also isn’t a mouthpiece for the UTAD either. He piled on Rick Barnes as he was digging out of the dumpster fire that he inherited. He bashed Fulmer relentlessly and let idiots like Phil and his oinking brother constantly crack on him. He’s an entertainer first, a TN fan second.

Like anybody else though, he won’t be critical when he’s being paid. He used to do live remotes at a different Pilot store every Friday. Since Pilot no longer pays him to do that, he relentlessly bashes Jimmy Haslam.

The idiot that oinks and makes up ridiculous parody songs. I forget his name. He thankfully rarely calls.

I think his real name is Perry. I forget what their last name is and what Perry’s caller name is. They are both clowns.

The random questions he asks Titans Bill knowing the man doesn‘t know the answer cracks me up. The was he says off the wall stuff to Matt or Brian aNd then let’s the uncomfortable silence linger is funny too. TB is a very entertaining performer even if he may be off on his predictions sometimes.

I first discovered Basilio during the Schiano fiasco. Glad I did. He keeps it real and never bashes the fans. He gives coaches a chance but admits when they should go, unlike state run media. Wondering what everyone else thought of him? I have not listened to any other outlets, and I give him props for being independent and successful in a studio in his basement. I think that's awesome. State run would tell you that Pruitt should have been given more time, and they basically ignored a knowledgeable fan base. Screw them for that. He admits his mistakes like his initial takes on Barnes. I guarantee he has more listeners and better advertising dollars than any other show and his post game shows draw thousands on Twitter's periscope. I agree with him that we need a little luck and should give the next coaching staff a chance. Until we shouldn't. I never would have known about how the Haslams and others have been largely responsible for the mess we are now in. I had no idea, and I've been a fan since I was ten. I'm 49 now. One more thing. I know where we are, but I believe we are too much of a tradition to not come back to power. I see a lot of people saying we are done, and that is disappointing.
Basilio’s show and radio family/community is more than Tennessee football. It’s why he’s been able to stay relevant for close to 30 years. And it’s also why, through these very lean years we’ve gone through and are about to really go through, he’ll still be standing.

But this is a big issue....I live in Columbus, OH (yes it’s me). Columbus is probably 2-2.5x the size of Knoxville approximately. It has one, ONE, sports talk radio station. And that station is flagship home of Ohio State and it’s owned by a mega booster/trustee.

Knoxville has what? 4 places to get sports talk radio? Plus everyone has a blog, everyone has a podcast, everyone has a website, etc....I believe it to absolutely be the biggest media fishbowl in the country. At least Birmingham there’s a little bit of a split. New Orleans is a Saints town. Atlanta is a Falcons/Braves town. Etc. Etc. This thing is so white hot intense here and there’s competition. You can only discuss the competition for 2nd string offensive guard so much. I mean Basilio basically did 3 hours on a defensive coordinator hire today. Only here can you get away with that. And im a Capitalist, if you think you can make it in the sports content field...go for it. But don’t tell me it doesn’t give some coaches pause about coming here. And it absolutely swallowed Butch up whole.

(And btw, Hugh Freeze would never, ever have been able to handle it 😊😊😊)

TB is enjoyable and can be insightful, other than the EA show those guys on 99.1 are awful. Between Heather and Jimmy I’d rather hear nails on a chalkboard

For 99.1 my only recommendation is to listen a few minutes before 3:00 and listen to the guest lineup for the Hyams show.... Dr. Punch and the array of recruiting guys can be informative... The guy from Houston on pro football is fun. will listen to EA some but not a regular.

Can't handle TB, can't explain it, but the whole format gets on my nerves... can't remember the station it has been so long now...

Sirius radio is now my best friend.... the oldies stations not the shock jocks.

Basilio claims that Butch warned his players to not listen to TB and called him an Energy Vampire. I tend to believe Basilio’s claim that Coach BuzzCut really said it.

Since we are on the subject, I'm in Augusta, Ga. The only folks I know to get some home cooking UT is WNML through the web. I'm really not a fan of them in the least bit. Who else should I try for local to Knoxville sports radio? Thanks in advance.
I enjoy Fan Run, but they aren’t for everyone. People who expect them to be journalists (they are not) get cranky when the “fan” part comes out. They’re regular guys who love the university and are mostly pretty entertaining.

Swain is also great if you enjoy a former player’s perspective who isn’t Ainge.

But Trey Wallace tried to be a journalist. And when they are “breaking” stories about the program, what exactly does that make them?

As long as the SEC Network money is flowing in, regardless of the product on the field, then there's little incentive for the administration to care about having a winning football program; the last ~14 years of AD/coaching hires is proof enough of that.

Your theory is that they are trying to suck this bad? And who is "administration"? The AD has been a revolving door ... as bad or worse than the coaches. Maybe on both fronts, we should try, oh I don't know, stability. If anything, I think we suck because we are trying too desperately to get back to 1998. The last ~14 years of AD/coaching hires is proof enough of that.

I used to like Ainge but I gotta be honest, I was really turned off with the way he carried water for Butch Jones far past when it was obvious to everyone but him seemingly that Butch wasn't the answer. I just never understood that from Ainge. Seemed like he let his relationship with Butch affect his perspective on that situation. I kind of got away from listening to him after that because if you can't keep it real I don't want to waste my time listening to you.
What’s up with all the KISS avatars lately? 😃

The Swain Event podcast is awesome! And some of his regular callers are hilarious. I could do without Ben though... just my 2 cents

Everything about Basillio urks me, from the lousy over the top commercials. The obnoxious characters he throws on the air for those scripted phone calls. How he feeds the answers he wants to hear to the "regular" guests. The throw this against the wall and see if it sticks "breaking news" blatant lies he spews. How he blows with the wind on how he feels about everyone put in charge based on who is on the phone and then plays the bongo drums over top of anyone he doesn't agree with, all while not talking directly to them, instead having one of his cronies "handle" them.

I have tried to stomach him during these searches this round, only because the idiots on 99.1, minus Ainge and Rice, on the other main stations only spent 15 minutes reading the press release After each hire and then move on to golf or other

I never heard any "state run" media saying he deserved more time... only a few rational fans.
