The brillance is in who and how many could relate to the comparison.

It's uncanny how apt the analogy was though. Chan Gailey is a great X and O guy who is probably a little too vanilla personality-wise. He could show up at Cutcliffe's office tomorrow and things would probably just keep going.

Dick York was the first one right? Cant beat him, the first guy was head and shoulders above the latter.

He was much to consevative! The Darren role had so much potential that never materialized......and when York couldn't find his way out of the bottle the powers that be had a chance to take a risk on and up and comer but they played it safe with Sargeant!

I wouldn't say they played it too safe, since the second Darren was gay,but so is this emoticon---->:birgits_giggle:

P.S. sorry for re-hijacking the thread.

Cutcliffe is 53 years old. So he is still pretty young.

In 6 years he was 44-29 at Ole Miss and took them to 4 bowls. Not sure what Ole Mis was expecting.

He would be a good hire for Duke because:

A) He is a great offensive mind. Would help put butts in the seats. Right now that is Duke's biggest problem IMHO. Recruits don't want to play in an empty stadium.

B) Would bring some credibility on the recruiting trail. He did coach both Peyton and Eli Manning. And was an OC on the Knoxville Community College national championship team.

C) Has the contacts to build a good staff. (This is by far the most important item to consider when hiring a football coach. This is the hard lesson we learned with Torbush and Bunting.)

D) Did a solid job at Ole Miss in a very tough conference. Unfortunately he was not appreciated by some of the key goobers in Oxford.

the rumour persists.

ESPN - Rumor Central: 2007 Coaching Carousel - College Football

Duke has shown some interest in Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe, who's in his second stint with the Vols. Cutcliffe was the head coach at Mississippi from 1999-2004. He took the Rebels to four bowl games and earned a share of the SEC Western Division championship in 2003 before being fired following a 4-7 season the next year. Tennessee may also seek to sweeten Cutcliffe's deal, which pays him $340,000 annually, to entice him to stay in Knoxville.

OK, go to Duke and compete against Jim Grobe and Butch Davis as your rivals. Not a good plan.

Now that Orgeron is gone from Ole Miss (Vandy's annual rivalry opponent from the West, like UTK/Bama), who would you consider to be the worst head coach that Vandy will have to face each year?

The difference I see, is that he has settled into quite a comfortable place at Vandy. For the most part Vandy fans seem pretty happy with him. He has to start the whole process over at Duke.

I get the feeling that Duke is going to pay a little more than Vandy, plus VU has that weird athletic dept/student life set up

Also, REMEMBER, Mrs. Cut' has a say in this move. If she says no then forget it.

Note:

She wanted to return to Knoxville.

Yep, I just don't see them moving again. Knoxville is where their family and friends are.
