Barnett totally disrespected

FTR, Booger also chose KMac as his top pick for SEC DTs in his 2015 SEC fantasy draft. So, um, I think it's fair to say he sees things differently than other experts.

On the field production. You can't deny it. Barnett will have to be head and shoulders above the rest in order to get the recognition we all know he deserves. He has a few less sacks, but is more disruptive by having more tackles and tackles for losses. This should add some fuel to the fire for him. Also, that head to head meeting will give him the chance to shut up all nay-sayers.

I think Barnett is maybe a little overrated by our fanbase. But more than that I think our fans tend to forget that the SEC is filled with great players. Specifically, the SEC separates itself from other conferences at the defensive tackle position.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with Booger. Just stating I think Vol fans tend to have tunnel vision and just think about how great our own players are and forget that other teams have great players as well.

Respectfully disagree. Barnett is more explosive than anyone on his list besides Garrett. Those other guys are very good but Barnett has proven his worth more than anyone sans Garrett the last two years. Yes there are other great DL in the SEC but put their stats up against Barnetts and most will fall short. One might be able to make the case of Allen being better but if he is, its not by much.

I like Booger and he has the right to his opinion. But saying that Barnett is overrated by our fanbase is overwhelmingly false. I would agree with you if Barnett has not been talked up and praised by many sports media personalities. Its not like just us Vol fans talk about how good he is. Many in the country and in the media have talked about how good he is. Barnett is in the top 5 in the SEC and possibly the entire country.

Just remember, Barnett as a freshman had an NFL top 10 draft pick lineman holding him dang near every play to keep him from mauling Iowa's QB.

And he still got loose and mauled him.

A player like Barnett is never far from any OC's mind when it comes to game scheming. And that is more of a testament to his abilities than any analyst could ever give.

And 2011 and 2013 Clowney was no Derek Barnett.

He was pretty close to his sack and TFL numbers as a freshman, and has had more total tackles in each of his first two years than Clowney had that year....by a country mile....as a matter of fact he has more in 2 seasons (142) than Clowney had in 3 (129).

Barnett is not the physical specimen that either Clowney or Garrett are, nobody's asserting that. But production-wise? He's right on Clowney's heels and he's much better than Garrett to date. And personally, give me the on-field production....I don't really care how he looks in his uniform.

Clowneys junior year numbers were conservatively low bc of NFL prospects but that 2012 Clowney 23.5 TFL 13 sacks is what I was looking at. Barnett is in the same conversation with Clowney though. I hope he goes for 10+ this year as he probably should. (I know I'm only looking at 2 stats and not overall production, but those are what get the most attention).
