Barnett totally disrespected

I think Barnett is maybe a little overrated by our fanbase. But more than that I think our fans tend to forget that the SEC is filled with great players. Specifically, the SEC separates itself from other conferences at the defensive tackle position.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with Booger. Just stating I think Vol fans tend to have tunnel vision and just think about how great our own players are and forget that other teams have great players as well.

It's not tunnel vision when the vast majority of analysts and news outlets have Barnett as the #1/#2 D-Linemen in the SEC depending on which article you read. This list is definitely the exception, not the rule.

He has more TFL's and total tackles than Myles Garrett, and would probably have more sacks if he wasn't constantly held. Booger has Garrett as his number 1. While I agree that the SEC has it's fair share of major DL talent, to not even include Derek in his top 5 (and he even said he wouldn't make him #6 either) is just absolutely ridiculous.

Vasty majority of credible analysts and news outlets have him as 1 or 2 out of all the SEC defensive tackles/ends?

Well, we are not the only ones over-rating Barnett then.

PFF uses grades to settle Barnett-Garrett debate

TBH Barnett is going to have to prove it this year. He has always been helped by Williams. I'm not convinced on Barnett yet either. Not saying he can't do it, but in the past his play has been helped by Owen Williams.

Maybe Booger values tackles over ends since that was his position. Not saying its right

Edit: not sure where all the other guys play besides Barnett and Garrett. This is just the first thing that popped into my head and I though I would share

Nobody should care. People are going to have different opinions....so what! Let's close out games we should win. Better yet, let's play a game first. Go Vols!

At least he was on the board as a choice. I was a little surprised that he at least was not in the little video they made about the d-linemen. I don't care about his list but the video should have had him in there.

There weren't any three guys in college football that were held as much as Barnett last year. He's not inconsistent.

Booger just learned, painfully, that VolNation are devoted to our players. He may have built up a lot of goodwill with VN over the past couple of years, but there is no allegiance to sports reporters. Not when they show blatant disrespect for our talented young men.

I had to laugh at that little line he dropped about being mad at Volnation for coming after him. Not sure what he expected :p

Barnett plays the run and pass.

And he almost never overpersues.

If Myles Garrett had Stripling as his coach, he would double his output. Garrett is a freak.

But as it stands right now, Barnett is better than all of those guys listed.

As Booger said... watch the tape.
Barnetts is better than anyones.

Booger is just shaking things up

Barnett is a generational type of talent. I'm not sure he has been legally blocked in his career. I think back to the 2014 Oklahoma game as the first real glimpse of his talent when he managed a one-armed takedown of the OU RB while being double teamed. You don't see those type of plats often, and rarely from a true freshman DE. I think it hurts him 1) that he isn't that "prototypical" build for defensive end and 2) he is a Tennessee Volunteer.

Are you sure about that? He was held, but so were the other top DEs in the country. Players have to fight through that, sometimes outside of the rules. If the ref isn't calling blatant holding then Barnett needs to grab that tackles face mask and yank it around some or slap him upside the ear hole. Let the tackle know if he's going to play that way then there will be consequences. Heck if nothing else it will force the official to keep an eye on Barnett which means he'll see the holding.

As a side note why hasn't Butch called out the officials after a game if Barnett is being held as much as Volnation thinks he is? I know there is a fine but the man makes $5 mil a year. Take the fine and draw attention to something that may cost us some games
