TBH Barnett is going to have to prove it this year. He has always been helped by Williams. I'm not convinced on Barnett yet either. Not saying he can't do it, but in the past his play has been helped by Owen Williams.
I think Barnett is maybe a little overrated by our fanbase. But more than that I think our fans tend to forget that the SEC is filled with great players. Specifically, the SEC separates itself from other conferences at the defensive tackle position.
Not agreeing or disagreeing with Booger. Just stating I think Vol fans tend to have tunnel vision and just think about how great our own players are and forget that other teams have great players as well.
And 2011 and 2013 Clowney was no Derek Barnett.
He was pretty close to his sack and TFL numbers as a freshman, and has had more total tackles in each of his first two years than Clowney had that year....by a country mile....as a matter of fact he has more in 2 seasons (142) than Clowney had in 3 (129).
Barnett is not the physical specimen that either Clowney or Garrett are, nobody's asserting that. But production-wise? He's right on Clowney's heels and he's much better than Garrett to date. And personally, give me the on-field production....I don't really care how he looks in his uniform.
