Barnes has never been good in close games....

I think teams are a reflection of their coaches and I think we sometimes have a tendency to play tight in big games/moments/tourneys.

With that being said, the Bruce talk is stupid. He is a cheater with no ethics/morals...

That is laughable.

There is a lot to like about Coach Barnes and I believe the program will see a lot of success under him but only 1 Final Four in his 31 year career should let you know what to expect from his teams.
Had the POY on the bench the start of OT yesterday. Finally got him in when we were down 5 points. WTH was Barnes thinking? Don't talk about 4 fouls, it was do or die time

Had Pearl not lied to the NCAA about a freaking BBQ we more than likely would have several Final 4 banners hanging in the rafters at TBA

You spelled "Had Pearl not admitted that he lied" wrong. Lets not forget you had in the very same state Coach Cal lying publicly about Derrick Rose scandal.....

Regardless of your current feelings on Bruce, it was evident that it is better in the eyes of the NCAA to lie your ass off and cling to it, then to actually come clean.

As has been said many times since the season started, getting to the FF these days is a rarity, even for many very good teams. It takes talent, resolve, hustle, and lots of good fortune, including some favorable whistles. Look at Duke against UCF last week. UVA could have lost to Oregon. In the end, you could argue that only one team in America ends the season successfully by many people's standards. I am proud of this team AND their character. The total picture here trumps everything else for me, including our head coach's ability on the floor and his dedication to furthering character.
Or maybe a nun on the sidelines? Loyola made it with none of the above, except for maybe some good fortune. Barnes has now lost 2 years in a row in the NCAAT when his teams should have made at the least the Elite 8.

By your "should haves," Duke and Kentucky should finish 1 and 2 every year.

I remember finding a way not to get there. Doubt that would have changed. Loved him and signed the petition but honesty.

I don’t think THIS team...as presently made up, gets developed and makes the tourney under any other UT HC.

This. Tennessee and Barnes rejuvenated each other for their own separate reasons. Deep down, I thought Barnes would be a 5 year transitional coach as he plans for retirement. But after proving last year wasn't a fluke and being able to sign some big names, I think he has another 5 years here.

If no one leaves outside of Admiral and Kyle, I think next year will be the best team Barnes will have at Tennessee.

Just because you say it twice doesn't make it true. Bruce is a very good coach but he will never coach here again due to the reasons I mentioned earlier....

Well he didn't cheat here so using cheating as a reason he won't get hired here again is laughable.....

Additionally, Phil will be the AD unless a scandal hits or he says "I'm done".....

It was no secret that Bruce and Phil were and are good friends...

Also like Phil, Bruce got the shaft by Hamilton/Currie faction.

There are more reasons why Bruce could end up at Tennessee than reasons why he wouldn't if and when Barnes decides to call it quits.

Silly thread

Was listening to ESPN radio and Andy Staples (and the other host) were saying that Bruce and AU are still facing as much trouble as LSU/Wade - especially since Person copped a plea and is cooperating with the Investigators. The hosts even went so far as to say that Bill Self is toast and KU is going to get nailed.

He didn't get caught here.....Let's not bury our heads and pretend that players like Tobias were 100% on the up and up....

I think Bruce lied because he thought that would keep the NCAA away...

Barnes had a Final Four Appearance 16 years ago. Bruce doesn't. Acting like Barnes is lightyears ahead of Bruce in the current time is asinine. Both can be great coaches at the same time.

Who was acting like Barnes was light years ahead? You’re responding to an argument nobody was making.

So you're saying Tobias was paid to come to Tennessee? Care to prove that?

Well, how do you define cheating? It seems that you believe it means he didn't break the "big rules". He committed several NCAA violations at Tennessee, one being that he violated the bump rule even while being under investigation for his lying to the NCAA. Also, he lied to the NCAA because the violation he committed by illegally hosting Craft at the BBQ, was the same violation he committed at UW-Milwaukee.

Our fans need to stop minimizing what Pearl did. He made his own bed, and he will NEVER coach at Tennessee ever again. I believe that with the same amount of conviction as if to say the sun will rise in the East. Beyond time to move on from that dream.

Hosting Craft and the Bump violation are elementary stuff and secondary violations. He never cheated here. The bigger issue here is that under the NCAA, it is better to lie your ass off and cling to it than come clean, which he did proactively after lying.

At the end of the day, Bruce made some mistakes but those actions pale in comparison to the blue blood programs and coaches that have been guilty clear as day but get a slap on the wrist.
Of course he made his own bed. With that said, there are more reasons as to why he could return IF AND WHEN Barnes decides to retire than reasons he wouldn't return.

This isn't rocket science.

We can debate his resume all day, but I counted 13 active coaches with more than one FF, and that includes Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan.

Huggins only has two. Mark Few only has one. Bill Self has three.
