Don't like it when he tells the media after a game or elsewhere that he's told the players they need to play better defense, etc. and then they don't.

Don't spread the word that you've told them to do something and yet they don't. They must not be listening or else they're ignoring you.

Just get them to play better defense. Period.

Almost seems like he's trying to shift the blame to them rather than the coaching staff.

Coaches should be people of action. They should get things done.

Don't spread the word that you told/asked your team to do something but they don't do it. Sounds weak.

Yes, the word coach is a verb as well as a noun.

You need to direct this toward Holly Warlick, not Rick Barnes. He's done a phenomenal job, and I for one am not going to question how he's coaching up his team. Results speak for themselves.

I’m glad all these people I’ve never seen post in the basketbal forum are starting all these threads giving their in depth analysis of UT basketball.

Indy2020.
I for one have posted on other sites besides this one and just stumbled upon it recently. I also think OP is an idiot and that is a horrible take. Just because people are new on this site does not mean they are new TN basketball fans, I have watched every mens game since I was 16.

Back to OP, unless you are the coach of the #1 ranked team in the country STFU. Our D has been awful and Barnes is wanting to make it clear to the guys that they are not listening. Obviously this guy knows how to coach so how about you let the professionals keep doing that they are doing.

The only thing that sounds weak in your post is your understanding of the nature of sports and competition.
Coaches coach and players play in a cooperative effort. Coaches bear the responsibility for providing instruction and correction--and players have an obligation to listen and obey the coach's directions. That's the agreement made between Coaches and players. It's NOT a PERFECT operation because neither coaches nor players are PERFECT. BLAME has nothing to do with it. ALL must do their part for the team to improve performance in the games.

I'm happy with the Coaches and players to this point...but not content.

Barnes has done an incredible job...and so have the players....but there's always room for improvement in sports.
