Barnes coaching style

I'm still trying to figure out why Bone tried to put the brakes on and busted his ass. Should have drove it in the lane and dropped it in, or drawn the foul. Either way they probably win it right there

I think he was going to do a pull up jumper, but was going to fast to stop on a dime. I think he wanted to be the hero, but instead turned it over without us getting a last shot.

The NCAA is a one and done if you don’t play well. I’m proud of the seasonal body of work these guys produced to be #1 for weeks. I know everyone talks about being national championship, but how much luck do you need to win out? How proud I am of a team not mentioned anywhere, building the season of resume to reach the #1 ranking. Go Vols! I’ll be backing you 100% no matter what.

I'd bet that a deep run in the NCAAT would mean far more to Barnes than TN's first ever back-to-back SEC championships or the first SECT championship in 40 years. He was fired at Texas because he didn't have enough NCAAT success in the last decade. He has already had in conference success. IMO everything CRB does in the stretch run will be with the NCAAT in mind. They are already locks to make the field. 2 or 3 more wins should get a 2 seed. A double bye in the SECT probably happens with one more win. Getting an NCAAT #1 seed may not be worth spending the capital that it would take to accomplish.

really would love to hear from people with basketball knowledge.
At this point has Barnes stressed his team to the point of being unproductive? Or has he been too dependant on the producers and not allowed others to develop? ( aka fulky over Alexander )
There is some unreasonable decline of efficiency and I can't put a finger on it. Is it a lack of rotation? Is it a lack of talent and other teams have caught up? The synergy from the first of the season seems missing and I'd like to know if others thibk its a coaching issue

I do not know if I am knowledgeable enough to express to a point of view to the coaches style of play. I do want to give my opinion though, I am seeing a team that appears to play tired at times, so I wonder if the coach is pushing his player in practice to hard this time of the year. I would suggest the coaching look at the play from this team earlier in the year for guidance.
I do not see the same confidence or style of play. I do know why coach is so critical of Bone though, this team will only succeed with the play of Bone not Williams or anyone else for that matter.
Another thing Bone, stop passing the ball to a big man in the middle court of a fast break! You (Bone) the point guard need to control to flow and ball to finish successfully. Also, when a player is trapped, Bone please ho an get the ball and stop stand on the opposite side just looking!

it is harder to stop offensive rebounds out of a zone because a defender is not responsible for any player in particular so it is easier to slide in and get the rebound. This has always been an issue with a zone, but the main issue yesterday was we could not stop the dribble drive. Until that is stopped then you can't get any stops. See the last 5 minutes of the game yesterday as a prime example. Ironically, we went to zone in the last 5 minutes of the first half and pretty much shut them down and extended our lead. Barnes must really dislike zones (many coaches do) but you have to give your team the best chance to win and the man was not doing it. It is hard to man up with a team that is taller AND more athletic than you. We also were very slow to help yesterday which may have been by design but clearly did not work.

Thanks for explaining it to me. I just don't get it. And I confess that I don't know much at all about the strategy of the game.

I guess that I'd rather take a chance with the 2-3 zone to get a rebound than staying in man and just letting a better player dribble drive right by and get an easy layup. No need to fight for a rebound then.

I’d like to see Barnes play more zone. I’d like to see Pons back in the starting lineup with Bowden first off the bench. And, I’d like to see Pons at the top of 1-2-2 matchup zone defense causing all kinds of length problems for opposing guards. As for offense, guys are trying to make things happen. If you go back to Pearl’s best teams with Tennessee, his go to guy, Chris Lofton, could hit shots from just about anywhere and could do so with defenders in his face. JaJuan Smith could create off the dribble, Chism was solid inside, Bradshaw was scrappy. Currently, this team has 2 go to guys IMO, those being Williams and Schofield. I’d actually like to see more off the block ISO with Admiral and see what happens. Thoughts from a very amateur observer who played a little ball back in the day.

Best season Tennessee has had in a long time and we’re really going to start b*tching about the coaching?
