Gotts give credit to both of these guys. Barnes for never giving up on Ament. I'm not sure I've seen him be more supportive publicly of a player than he has of Ament. He knew Ament needed it. And to Ament, because we all know he saw what people were saying online but he put his head down and has become the player we all knew he could be. Good attitude and coachable through it all. I really do respect it, especially from a 19 yo.
To me, this all goes back to the mustard seed that Barnes gave Ament during their final recruiting visit. It, more than anything, symbolizes their connection and their faith and the fact that Barnes will stand by Ament, not matter where the wind may blow! Barnes has also recruited character guys.
Barnes is special, let's cherish him. Let's also begin to cherish the Freshman Ament. They're keepers! GBO

Is there a way to read the article without paying Knox News for it?

Barnes, as I have previously stated, is a builder of men first, then a dang good basketball coach. We are blessed to have his leadership, character and faith. He is humble and generous with gratitude. If you were an Arky, you couldn’t say this about your coach.
I think Callipari is a good guy. Barnes is a rare person who coaches high level ball and always tries to put his faith first. Hard to do for anybody but particularly a person in a profession that requires them to perform on move on.

Cal and Barnes are good friends. I've never cared for Cal, but the fact that Rick is good friends with him makes me think he might be alright.

It was Cal who leaned into convincing Rick to take the UT job. Said we're a sleeping giant and had great support. I'll always appreciate that about him.

I’m disappointed that a coach who grew up in North Carolina and lived through Bernie and Ernie didn’t know Tennessee basketball had potential.

All any coach has to do is convince the fans that we have a shot at a sweet 16 every year.. Kentucky would fall apart if that was their ceiling.

As a matter of fact for the most part Ky fans have fallen apart this year. We gifted them a game in KNX and they know that and it just hurts worse for them to know that

This is a wonderful summation of Barnes as a coach and as a person. I have been blessed to observe him off the court and i would say he is as honest and fine a human being as I have ever known. He coaches hard but he loves the players and he loves his God.
