I understand this point of view. But that is true for the entire coaching staff including Heupel. I think Heupel is growing as a head coach but he has a ways to go to win night games on the road against good competition.I am ambivalent about this today. He has a ways to go to get me positive about his job performance.
We still need better players to compete with the best. It’s all about first, alignment and then assignment. That goes with any sport. We just don’t have enough dogs yet and you can’t develop most of your roster these days because of the transfer portal.Ask Ohio State and Georgia if they think we are elite on defense. I doubt they would agree
This is spot on!!! I can't believe the lack of perception on this board!!! Banks isn't all that! Definitely not a top 5 DC in college football! Probably isn't even top 25 with Garner not on the staff!Agreehere. Without Garner Banks looks even more mediocre. Banks cannot game scheme he cannot adjust in games which is why he is not that good. Also he is safety coach that is his specialty and his position he also coaches how has our safeties been? Mediocre is what I’m sure most will say if truthful so again I ask why? I truly don’t think worth the money. Wish him all the best while he’s here just think he is getting credit that he truly hasn’t earned with our Garner
No it is not. I guess you haven't seen enough UT/UGA games to know better. I have been watching the Vols, and college football lin general, since the 80's and have seen all the ups and downs. In big rivalry games, which team is better does not always guarantee anything. Last few times we lost to UF we wee the better team but we cant beat any of the big 3 on their home feilds.Elite defenses aren’t going to let even juggernaut offenses name the score on them. Our defense was not elite. It was good, but it wasn’t elite.
Trying to argue that “the winner of the Tennessee-Georgia game is not always the best team on the field” when they have absolutely destroyed us for 8 years and running and had the better team each and every time is also a hilarious thing for a person to say.
OSU showed to be a terrible matchup for pretty much anyone with the exception of their egg laid with MI. The UGA argument has some legs. Honestly UGA didn't have a real standout at WR on offense. They used our aggressive nature and exploited it. UGA made adjustments and locked our offense down.Ask Ohio State and Georgia if they think we are elite on defense. I doubt they would agree
Ask your grandmother if you might be underestimating how talent affects performance.
If you actually saw enough Tennessee-Georgia games and understood what you were watching, you would never say this. Just because we beat them in the 90s doesn’t mean we can compete with them today. We have beaten them 5 times this century. There is no argument to say “well this game could go either way” because it almost always goes just one way. And it hasn’t even been close the last 8 times. Hell, Jeremy Pruitt cried tears of joy for keeping it within 26 one year.No it is not. I guess you haven't seen enough UT/UGA games to know better. I have been watching the Vols, and college football lin general, since the 80's and have seen all the ups and downs. In big rivalry games, which team is better does not always guarantee anything. Last few times we lost to UF we wee the better team but we cant beat any of the big 3 on their home feilds.
Do we have many defenders coming back from this past season? How about the defensive line?I hope our defense can have another solid year and keep improving, since they are maintaining continuity. Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll be interested to see what happens with the other remaining unsigned coaches since it seems like they usually announce coaching news close together.
Perfect damn analogy!!!That is the most ridiculous statement possible. Thats like saying you sold less records than Drake or Kenny Chesney so you suck. We went platinum, dude. How we did against easily 2 of the best teams in the country 2 of 133 is not a a measure of how good or bad we were. If you want to really get at it. Neither of those teams had their best game against us. OSU put up points against EVERYONE they played except for Michigan. 42-17 is really bad and looks really bad until you put it in context.
They scored 41 against Oregon and even in their loss to them scored 31. Like it or not OSU was a juggernaut this year. That roster is nuts Do they even have a single position without a future NFLer at other than TE?
UGA vs UT is a headcase game. Much like Bama/Auburn. OSU/MIchigan. Bama/LSU, UT/Bama, Oregon/Oregon State, Florida/Georgia, UCLA/USC, FLirida schools vs each other and Army Navy. The winner of these games is not always the best team on the field because the game is about a lot more. Florida State got stomped by Miami and Florida, but given the QB they threw out there those 2 games it should have been a lot worse. As a fan, it's hard to do, but you have to realize some games are gonna be aberrations. I will give a perfect example and get a lot of hate for it. But put a different Jersey on Bama in 2022 and 2024 let them be say Lousiville with the same roster and coaches and we lose both those games. Those UT teams went on that field with copious amounts of real animosity. Those crowds had a different kind of energy.
The OSU playoff game at their house? Trust me, the failed takeover played a bigger part in the score than the talent on the teams. Motivation plays a big factor. Our team, rightfully, was happier to be in the playoffs than most fans might expect. They walked into the shoe not knowing what to expect. They are used to playing in front of big crowds, but that crowd was something else.. they were pissed. That OSU team didn't go into the season hoping for a natty. It was their reason for existence. As a fan you can say UT should have been the same way but if they were, it would have been based on delusion. Player for player name a stronger roster in college football in 2024? The only team that would come close would be.. oh damn UGA. Ohio State has been in legit playoff contention for the last 2 decades. We are just getting back there. Like it or not its true.
They went on a rampage after their coach was bout to get fired and hired a OC that fixed his offenseDid you see what OSU just did? They went to another level after that Michigan loss and UGA simply played their best game against us. Our D kept 11 out of 13 opposing Offenses under 20 points. That's the definition of Elite in this age of CFB
You do realize that was OSU right? Also in the games you are complaining about the offense did NOTHING to help Banks. The offense was basically three and out and barely making first downs. Passing offense averaged 3.4 yards per play and the run game averaged 3.9.For starters, put a UT defense on the field against a ranked opponent that does not give up 3 touchdowns with 6 minutes left in the first quarter. That was our last experience with Coach Banks and his performance against a ranked team.
We can't beat UGA anywhere as of the last 8 years! UGA has killed UT in recruiting the last 10 years as well. Just because you have been watching college football since the 80s doesn't mean you know what you are saying! There are lots of your type on here posting nonsense! No it is not. I guess you haven't seen enough UT/UGA games to know better. I have been watching the Vols, and college football lin general, since the 80's and have seen all the ups and downs. In big rivalry games, which team is better does not always guarantee anything. Last few times we lost to UF we wee the better team but we cant beat any of the big 3 on their home feilds.
ANY DC in major college football that gives up 3 touchdowns with 6 minutes to go in the 1st quarter is very very far down the ladder from being elite imo. I could give a rats axx who the opponent is, that a UT football defense performed like that is an anathema to me. It may be sugarplums, lollipops, and unicorns to you.You do realize that was OSU right? Also in the games you are complaining about the offense did NOTHING to help Banks. The offense was basically three and out and barely making first downs. Passing offense averaged 3.4 yards per play and the run game averaged 3.9.
You can’t expect the defense to hold up against the best team in the nation with numbers like that. Banks is elite. I honestly don’t know what you and some others are seeing or want.
