Bandwagon fans

To each their own. I could care less who someone else roots for, nor do I care what they think about who I root for.

I only care when they get smug about "their team winning", when it is quite obvious that it is more like "a winning team is their's."

And I only care enough to point out to them that they aren't fooling anyone, and that it is a character flaw.

Neither communists or heathens are likely to be bandwagon fans. They've both gotten their asses kicked.

When I was a kid I was born into being a Vols fan because of my Papaw. Wade and Allan Houston soured my tastes on men's basketball and I wanted to be like Bobby Hurley, thus I became a Duke fan. I had no idea they were about to embark on such a dominating mark on college basketball.

Also growing up I was bombarded with the Braves. I liked them for awhile and I'll always have good memories of Murph, Rafael Belliard, Mark Lemke, John Smoltz and Dave Justice, but I grew sick of constantly being bombarded with them. I also liked Dennis Eckersley and thought he was the coolest man on the planet with that power 'stache and the sweet mullet. Rickey Henderson was freaking awesome and of course, the Bash Bros. I cooled off on baseball during the strike, but I had seen Jermaine Dye in rookie league ball (Danville Braves), then in AAA (Richmond) then as a Brave. In each of those games he hit at least a home run and I'm actually pretty sure he actually hit two in each game. He wound up a Royal and I followed for him awhile, then he got traded to Oakland and my love affair with baseball came back. Again, I didn't know that they would wind up winning 20 straight and taking the AL West crown. I've been a devout follower ever since.

My other teams? I'm a freaking Washington Redskins fan. That should disprove any bandwagon theories honestly. I remember the joy of them beating John Elway and the Broncos in devastating fashion. I remember Mark Rypien and Gerald Riggs over the Bills (and Art Monk's season that got us there)... There's not much else I want to remember though.

I went to a small NAIA Div II school for undergrad and I would cheer for Milligan College over anyone they faced except for maybe Old Dominion, where I went to grad school. While in grad school, I worked extensively with the athletic department and got to know a lot of good people there and they will always hold a dear place in my heart. I love Tennessee in everything but men's basketball, but I honestly can't say what would happen if ODU ever played them in any men's sports.

So if being a Duke fan makes me bandwagon, eh, screw you I don't really care.

By definition, a bandwagon fan is a late comer who becomes a fan only after a team has success. Only you know if that is true - doesn't sound like it. I couldn't care less about Duke, JMO, IMO.

Volfanbill, I grew up with the braves way before their 90's domination in the NL. My father is a HUGE braves fan from way back in the day and it was in grained in me and my sister. Support of any other team was blasphemy. Back when I was in high school the hottest pitcher in MLB was Pedro Martinez and I was a huge Pedro fan so I started following the redsox. And yes it was before the championships.

When I was little I went to my grandpa's house all the time. He watched the braves every time they played and I would watch it with him, so I developed a love for them.
