He was a sensation at the right time and that is the only reason he landed the best job in the country. Washington was a playoff team before Deboer took over.

Washington went 4-8 the year before he took over.

He happened to have one good run with a 5th year QB and the PAC 12 folded right afterwards because they couldn’t get a TV deal. He won a lousy conference and Nick Saban happened to retire while he had nothing returning at Washington. He got lucky and any other year would not have been a candidate for Saban’s replacement.
