clemson is overrated once again...this just shows you how important the o-line is and I'm glad we have 5 starters back....living here in alabama bama fans have already started there were going to win a NC and Julio and Ingram for heisman

Tell me about it. :eek:lol:

Where does this "playing freshmen means you suck" mentality and mindset originate from??? If a freshman is your best player, then PLAY HIM. Has everyone forgotten Mark Levine starting against UF, when Jamal Lweis stood by and watched from the sidelines?

Say, didn't Eric Berry play last year? How did that work out?

so you can point to one example from a decade ago? Not sure that helps you too much

Many coaches much wiser than I have said the best thing about a freshman is that they'll be a sophomore next year.

No, there are numerous examples where coaches play freshmen and you know it, so why should I sit and list them all?

The Mark Levine thing still gets under my skin to this day. We would have beaten UF had we played Jamal. Funny thing, a couple of games later, he came in and started as a freshman and ran wild over UGA.

Do you think we would have been better served starting Gerald Jones last year over Austin Rogers?

Did UF think twice about starting Percy Harvin?

I think phil gets that now. If he is still stubborn enough to nurse freshmen along. Then we might as well get ready to have our asses handed to us by fl,ga,lsu, and now bubba on a regular basis.

not quite. Last year we simply refused to cover DJ Hall and made JPW look fabulous. Didn't help that we had the worst Dline I've ever seen at UT.

With the way bama looked last night, we better find a better one then. Their strength is, or was our weakness last year. It doesn't paint a rosy picture right now.

Bowden looked down-right frightened last night. Clemson took on his personality. Happens a lot.

Exactly. After all the things Musberger/Herbie said he told them this week, and based on his pregame interview, Clemson was doomed from the start.

Clemson's OL was a question mark coming in... but not any longer. They were exposed. Bama's DL's are big but Clemson's OL didn't play with leverage either. They never got to Bama's weakness, their LB's.

The only thing that really concerns me for the Vols' sakes is that Clemson's D philosophy is much like Chavis'. They're even a little smaller than UT on the DL and at LB.

Chavis better take this film and come up with a scheme....

Interested to see if we stick to running the ball. Our line can be a force if we don't dump the run. Also not too much cute stuff Monday. Just run down their throats. Anyone agree?

I want to see us establish the run, but I want to see what Clawson's put in for an offense

to me clemsons d line was way to small. the bama o line was unstopable.they could have called run plays allnight.why even throw it when you got the push they did.i hate alabama more than anybody ,but if they dont get our d line fixed then look out.

Fixed? Looks pretty damn good to me. We are thin in depth, but starting talent wise, we are in with the rest of the SEC

it may looked fixed in practice when they are wearing shorts and shoulder pads .but let them play in a game then we will see.

This is a big problem. How many times do you think Florida or Bama fans have said this about their teams? It is absolutely ridiculous and assinine for a coaching staff to be soooo stubborn that they are unwilling to make the proper adjustments to slow down the opponent. We must have the dumbest defensive coordinator in the world or the most stubborn. I tend to think that the latter applies to Chavis. It was almost like Chavis and Saban had an agreement that Tennessee was going to let DJ Hall run wild all day long and Chavis was to make no changes whatsoever against Hall. Even the TV announcers were wondering why UT was not doing something either personnel or scheme wise. Talk about embarassing. I was embarassed that our coaching staff would not make a change to slow down Hall. I felt the same way in 1999 when Alex Brown had 5 or 6 sacks against Tee Martin because Tennessee was too stubborn to put a blocker over him. How ignorant!!!! If you guys are thinking that UT is going to line up and run the ball down Bama's throats, forget it. Their nose guard is about 6foot 6inches tall and weighs about 350 lbs. He manhandled the guy or guys in front of him last night. That Hightower kid wasn't too shabby either. If Tennessee is going to win this game, our players will simply have to outplay Bama's players and want it more. Everyone knows that Saban will outcoach Fulmer 2 to 1 and they will have several wrinkles to throw at us from the beginning. Like last year when Saban started the game with the onside kick. I knew Fulmer was done whenever that happened. It's pitiful that I would have thought something like that about our own coach but it was the truth and everyone including Saban knew it. Let's just hope our offensive line can hold up those pesky d-lineman from Bama so Crompton can sling it around the field because I don't think we will be able to run much against them. Also, let's hope that our secondary is as good as advertised because Bama has some physical looking receivers who play very aggressively and can catch the ball in traffic. JPW looked pretty accurate too last night completing 70% of his passes. If our d-line doesn't get pressure on him, we will make him look, once again, like Tom Brady. Does anyone on this site think that had Saban been coaching our Vols last year, several of those highly touted freshmen ,outside of Berry, would be very active on our team and would be starting in several positions. Fulmer is and always will be the worst at getting the most out of his players. Some of the guys we recruit look better their freshmen year than they do when they are seniors. One of these days, the Vol faithful will get fed up with the same ole thing year after year and will get some new blood. Bama and the rest of the SEC have and they seem to be making strides and leaving us behind. I dread the game against Alabama this year because I know that our players will have to be much better than Bama's players in order to get a win because the difference that Saban will make in this game will be great.

bottom line.......and quote me later this year...Bama is relevent again. They played emotional hard nose football last night. If we dont have some serious emotion and defense we wont beat them a holes.

go vols, god bless our players and god bless tennessee

lets not crown them yet. After all this is Clemson. I still think that bammer will finish at the very best 3rd in the west. Probably 4th.

Yeah I think so LSU looks beastly once again, Auburn defense looks stout, Miss State plays hard, Ole Miss will be tough, and Arkansas I don't know, but Bama gets UGA I think on the 27th in Athens well see how they do on that game

Seems to be a trend going around. First it started with richt and uga. Then lsu and saban got into the act a couple of years later. Meyer at florida. Miles at lsu. Funny how those are the teams were chasing now. Saban is pulling a curtain call now at alabama. The only team that hasn't gotten into the act is us. We also haven't won a title in forever.

Actually, it started with Fulmer at UT.
