Watching replay against ARK, they get beat by the receivers often. They are athletic and will intercept bad passes, but ARK got open a lot.

They've always been susceptible to the pass. The strength of their defense is the front 7 and the pressure that they get. Their secondary has never really impressed me.

feel we could use basically the same Aggie game plan...just less injuries and no TO's.

GO VOLS...BEAT BAMA!

Got to have time to get open. Their D line > our O line. Dobbs will be running for his life unless they have a lot of designed rollouts, options, etc....

They take chances and play pressure man to man much of the time. They're very physical off the ball in the hopes of messing up the opponent's timing. It all fits together with a front 7 designed to stop the run and pressure the QB into mistakes.

They've had a significant tendency in the past to struggle with running QB's. They haven't really played one this year. Kelly is mobile but they don't have a lot of designed runs for him. Still the threat that he might take off tightened them up and left more passing lanes open.

UT still has the run threat but Dobbs has thrown the ball much better this year. The O should fare better this year.

I could be completely wrong but unless they bring 5 or more.... I don't think their 4 are a whole lot better than UF or TAM.

I think UT needs to mix it up with a significant number of slants, hitches, and fades to let Dobbs get the ball out quickly. But I think the OL has improved and will hold up reasonably well.

Sounds like us. This game might be the exact opposite from last year in which it was a low scoring game. This game could easily get into the 30s and possibly 40s. Both teams will lay it all out there and every play in the play books will be an option.

I think so too.

I'll have to disagree with you about their secondary. They are good, really good. In fact they have the best hands in football, and they know how to use them. They can grab, pull and maul a receiver to death with their hands and they get away with it.

Tide got a few PI penalties that kept Ark drives alive.

Appalachian State was also, but we just kept trying to run the ball. I really don't think the coaches do any film study. I think the have the same plan every week. Run the ball until we get so far behind that we have to pass.

They got away with a lot more than what was called, even the announcers commented on it. The Ark drive after bama went 14 zip, the tide DB was grabbing the arky receiver all the way down the sideline right in front of the ref and still no call.

They are taught to do this and it has been going on for years, just like UF.

Ole Miss jumped out on 'em early. I don't recall how they did it exactly but a lot of passing was involved. Bama came back after being down by 3 TD's so this could be a shoot-out. May very well come down to conditioning and rotation of the linemen. Bama's back-up linemen aren't as good this year as they've been in years past. Seems like one of their major advantages has always been depth and conditioning. I don't think UT has the depth we need on our OL although they are getting better since Hall has gotten back in the line-up. Their secondary is suspect and we need to make accurate passes and receivers need to catch the ball! As a previous poster said, they like to man-up on defense and mobile QB's coupled with backs like Kamara create problems for their style. They saw us successfully run the screen pass repeatedly this past Sat. so they'll be focusing on containing Dobbs and stopping that screen for sure.Jennings could have the game of his life as if he hasn't already.....then maybe we could see Hurd and Kamara both in....Hurd for extra pass protection plus he can get open also for short passes. I think Debord is capable of running them ragged with good play calling and we need it now more than ever. Bama is gonna put points on the board and we need to make them earn every point they get. We can't "give" this team any points! GO BIG ORANGE!!:yahoo:

You do realize that was the first game of the year don't you? We have come out throwing the ball a few games only to have the receivers drop balls early in games. You do realize we had 5 drops in the 1st half against Florida don't you? Those are drive killers especially when they happen on 3rd down. Also I bet the coaching staff thought the OL had improved from last year and wouldn't get manhandled against the 1st opponent. They do plenty of film study, sometimes the blame has to be on the players not executing. How else do you explain 7 turnovers in one game?

Dobbs needs time from the O-line, if he can't get that he needs to make sound decisions and not throw into double coverage. The WR need to play physical and go get the ball and not wait for it to get to them. Who wants it more?

i don't know if it will get to the 40's, but i do agree, that while it probably won't look like the game we saw last week as a shootout, this game too, has the potential to be the exact opposite of last year's slugfest.

the issue as i see it is can we prevent the NOTD's Bama has been making a living off of? and can we hold on to the ball?

if we can do both, and get them in to a straight up "offensive scores to win the game" type game, then we have a legit shot. cause if we can, then that creates situations where we have opportunities to win 1 on 1 match ups. and not that that favors us necessarily, but putting us in a situation where my guy has to only beat your guy, i like that better than the idea of having to beat the whole Alabama team.

i do think Bama's offense is more capable of making long drives against our D, than we are against their D. and that's primarily due to the injury/depth situation we currently face imo. And Bama is more than capable of making big plays on offense too.

that said, i do think our offense can, and probably will, make enough "big" plays to put us in to position to score some.

this is a tall task, no doubt, but i do think i feel better about this year's game than i did about last year's. i just knew they were going to blow our doors off last year. i think they probably will still win this year, but kind of like last week, i think it will be very competitive, and i won't be surprised if we find ourselves with yet again, another shot to win the game late.
