So. . . .a last minute trip to Alabama is in the works. A few questions:

1. Hotels in Tuscaloosa are booked. Any recommendations for B'ham?

2. Pregame festivities?

3. Where to park on campus and what to do after the game?

Oh, and of course, any ticket offers in the UT sections would be appreciated. . . .

Bama fans are a bunch of jerks, I suggest taking a helmet to protect yourself from the flying whiskey bottles they will be throwing at you when we beat them. I went to UT vs UA in 2005, I'm kinda glad we lost. I was worried about my personal safety.

I would stay in the Hoover area of B'ham around the Mall area or else in the Trussville area. Outside of that, you're at your own risk. I was at the 5 overtime Tenn. win in 2003 in the Bama section (the only place to get seats), and let me tell you, those people around me were the most foul mouthed, rude, obnoxious people... well, you get the picture... Nothing pleased me more than when Tennessee kicked their collective butt!!

The only thing going on in Tuscaloosa that I've ever found in my three trips there were right on the main drag of Alabama's campus, which happens to be right around the stadium. It shouldn't be too hard to find something going on. Never been to a UT-Bama game, but I've been on campus with my orange on and i was treated nicely and took just minor ribbing. Hoover is definitely the place to stay in Birmingham.

1. There are a plethora of mobile homes they rent by the night.

2. On your way to the stadium, be sure you spin the "FULMER CONSPIRACY" wheel...find out where the next conspiracy is headed.

3. Horses and mules are just usually tied to the hitching posts...but if you are driving a car, be careful, they spook easily...

...the bammers, not the horses or mules.

1. I would go with Hoover if I was you.
2. The quad is where the pregame stuff takes place... Ive tailgated every week and have set up my tent there for UGA you couldn't even walk around...
3. Get there early... parking has been a real problem, but they have a pretty good setup going on... Check out UAgameday.com

Check out UAgameday.com

Thanks for that link. Lots of good info there.

Which of the routes from B'ham mentioned on the site seem to flow the smoothest? Also, do you know if there are usually spots available in the "soccer lot?"

Same here man. I was worried about my brother and I. I thought we were going to get mobbed. They were acting as if they had never beaten Fulmer at home before...... oh wait, that never had until then. But yah, they were bad. I would just say good game to them and they still acted like goofballs.

I actually live in Hoover and can give you some suggestions on hotels. 459 and highway 280 area of Birmingham/Hoover is very nice. Drury Inn, Marriott Birmingham, Hilton Birmingham and Residence Inn are all on Hiway 280 right off 459. 1/8 mile away from Summitt Shopping which includes Saks 5th Ave, Cheesecake Factory, Fleming Steaks, PF Changs...459 will take you into Tuscaloosa, 45 miles...I am big Vol fan and my personalized car tag reads VOL but people here are very friendly...it's the Auburn folks who are overbearing...hope this helps you

Live in Alabama and my daughter just graduated from UAB. Agree would stay in Hoover but would get off I-65 onto I-459 toward Tuscaloosa and, if had a little extra time and if wife also going, would stay at Winfrey Hotel adjacent to the Galleria. Nice chain eating places in the vicinity (Firebirds, Bonefish Grill, California Pizza ,etc). Otherwise plenty of less costly Hampton Inn type places in the area.

Never had any parking problems (unlike Legion Field). Just follow the crowd with the flags on game day. Also I never have had any problems being abused by the Bama fans. As a rule they are very knowledgable and they will treat you like you treat them.

P.S. Nothing would be finer than for Ainge to lead the band playing "Rocky Top" like Manning and Clausen did in prior years so don't exit too early should we win.

My wife grew up in B'ham and was just there for a visit last week. There were three murders near UAB. Avoid downtown at all costs. The area by the Galleria is the nicest of all those mentioned, but the 280 area is also a nice place. You could probably save some money on a hotel at the intersection of 459 and 59 in Trussville. There are a couple of hotels there that should be cheaper than the aforementioned ones and they are all pretty nice and new.
Hope this helps and....

Go VOLS! Beat the Tide!!!

How about the Best Western adjacent to the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover?

I am sure that would be fine. I would advise to try the Drury Inn on 280 and 459. Only a few miles farther and I have stayed there when we were moving to Hoover from Tennessee about 3yrs ago. Very nice and convenient, plus very easy on and off interstate to Tuscaloosa. And reasonable. I don't know anything about the Best Western, but Hoover is safe and nice. Good luck and welcome to Birmingham!! Even if they are Alabama fans, some of the nicest people anywhere.

Hmmm...sounds like my experience w/ drunk Vols except I'm licensed to carry a sidearm in AL or TN, so I wasn't worried.

Bull sh#*%. No comparison. You can ALWAYS come to our house comfortably. If a select FEW give you trouble then they have to deal with US. You'll probably be more harrassed to try some tailgate fare than 'cuz ur a Bammer. My bro's and I make sure of that. Pay close attention this Sat. on behalf of us and I can gaurantee a pleasant trip to Ktown next year. You guys have quite a rep to overcome.
Road rule # 1 Fla, Bamma, and Ga come ready for over-the-top harrasment even when on best behavior. When I have a 3'x3" ut sticker keyed from my car to top off a horrible example of southern hospitality taking a U-turn don't sound -off about the one or two drunk idiots that we police ourselves. Return the favor for my fellow fans. I'll never go back to that flat, red clay, excuse for a uni again.

What's this 3 murders near UAB thing? :eek:hmy: Another girl and I are staying smack in the middle of 5 points Friday night. That's a safe enough area, right?

Big Bad Wolves BBQ next to The Houndstooth bar on the strip. Volunteer Fireman who set up on game weekends and cook the best bbq you'll ever eat. Enjoy!
