BAMA fan here, and I just wanted to say...

imo, Bama fans have always been way more classier than Gator fans. In fact, from my own experience, Bama fans have been some of the classiest in the sec.

I still hate bama though..hahaha

There is so much wrong here on so many levels, that I can't seem to respond to any single part of it.

...that I am so glad Derrick Dooley is y'alls new coach.

Anyway, I know some of y'all will still hate La Tech but I hope to see things improve between our two schools.

Best of luck in 2010!

Go Tech!

BigPapa Vol,

Are you the Tennessee fan in the you tube video when cody blocks the kick? That is a classic SEC fan moment. The company I work for is in Andover, Mass. and when they ask me about football in the SEC I send them that video. They love it. They know we take our football serious down here.

of the bammers crying and chewing their tongues just before the kick? TN fans were not as shocked as you would have been had our kicker been 100%...just imagining what ya'll were going thru thinking about Kiffin, a new coach to the SEC, about to tuck you away was priceless! Hopefully, the outcome this year will be much different and we don't have to depend on a field goal to win. We didn't have the horses then and we may not now but the DESIRE is definitely there. I'm always amused at the bammers who come on here with their dribble...I have never had ANY desire to get on your forum even when we win. As always, WIN or LOSE, being a VOL is preferable to a pachyderm! GO VOLS!!

not me. I'm a quiet zealot.

I remember being in my upper deck seat last yr after the Cody block and hearing the start of rammer jammer. And how all the rejects looked at us and sang. "We just beat the hell out of you" Im thinking, no you didnt, you were 14 point home favorites and you won on a blocked FG. You didnt beat the Hell out of anyone, you got saved by the bell. To say alabama fans are classy is hilarious. But why anyone would want civility with them is beyond. They are supposed to be a bitter rival. Its "the third saturday in october," "when the leaves begin to change and the boys become men"

Me too. I hate when our rivals are saying "I like your new coach, he's a class act." They are secretely saying, "Awesome, you have a guy we believe can't win and we aren't scared of. Keep him as long as you like!"

Unfortunately, that is usually the correct translation when opposing fans praise your coach.

I always thought Rich Brooks was a really great guy.

Alabama fans just like Dooley because they think they can beat him. This reminds me of when Kentucky fans loved Wade Houston. Just sayin.

I don't hate Tennessee, the Vols have my respect, along with Bama they are one of the most storied programs in the south. I did hate Fulmer and still dont like him although in his prime he was a heck of a football coach. In my opinion he did more to damage the rivalry than anything I can remember, not because he won but because of his hate. He was like a little kid hollering "Mom so and so's got his hand in the cookie jar". I didn't like tattle-tells when I was a kid and still don't. I quess it's my age but I long for the old days when that mutual respect between the teams was alive, along with the orange and crimson jersey's on a crisp Saturday in October. There are some classy posters on this site and there are some idiots, but hey, the Bama sites are about the same. Go Vols and Roll Tide! P.S. what you read here is what you get, can't say I'm posting one thing here and something different on another site.

I was a huge fan of Mike Shula.

In forming a list of my favorite non-UT SEC coaches, I'd add Ray Goff and Ron Zook. They had a lot of class, showed good sportsmanship, and were ethical (as far as I know).

These three are the prototypes for who I'd like to see at Bama, UGA, and UF.

Regardless, Bama can SUCK it. That's all I have to say about that. Except, last year during the SEC championship game I was hoping a tornado would carry off both teams and both fanbases.

Last time Bama fans were this "classy" is when they were on a 7 game win streak against UT.

First off, thanks to the OP for exemplifying what I believe to be a mutual respect between Bama and UT fans. It is nice to hear a little reflection on the pedigree of our new coach.

Second, I think that the argument over having another fanbase congratulate you on a hire (or vice versa) somehow reflects on their lack of fear (or vice versa) is absurd. We see how Kiffin beat up on our rivals after hearing all the negativity from other fans, right? There is some element of respect and class that exists in long-time fans, and some of us just like to see good football. It's understandable that Bama hated Fulmer, given the legal history. I actually think this hire might be very, very good for our storied rivalry.

Finally, as to Bama fans: I have never been sorely mistreated by a Crimson-faithful. My last trip to T-town (albeit an embarrassing one) was quite enjoyable, and we always enjoy the Tide following in Knoxville. Florida? Georgia? Auburn? Not so much. But "old money" is "old money," and we share a mutual respect.
