Bama exposed us. Recruiting must improve if Vols are going to step forward.

I'm not disappointed because I expected this to be an uphill battle. I am, however, unpleasantly surprised at how bad we look against an elite team. Going forward, if we're going to have any chance to compete with the Bamas of the world we're going to have to do better than the class that we currently have committed. I don't know if it's going to take staff changes, major infractions, or both. I love our guys and their resiliency but even if we didn't have the injuries we just don't have the athletes to compete with what we've seen today. Right now, I don't even want to see a replay of this game in Atlanta.

You are right... today is a bit worse due to injuries, but we need more stubs coming into the program.

College recruiting is rigged. The NCAA needs to implement a draft. You know it's not fair. It's like having a team full of #1 draft picks.

How many injuries can you expect to absorb. I think some of you like the misery and some of you are just trolls.

Eh. You can always point toward recruiting better players to have better teams but that is not the only issue here.

if the last two classes (last/current) are any indicator then UT is in trouble.

Butch has not recruited Oline well.

Yep. We don't have a single OL who would even get on the field for Bama. They are bigger, stronger and faster at every position but Barnett.

Sensible post. I give Schoop a pass because of all the injuries but the offense has been an issue. Dobbs hasn't developed as a qb - no one questions his heart but he doesn't make good decisions. His passing is an issue. We'll see if any changes are made in the staff after this year. Butch has to decide if he wants to compete with the Alabamas or just go to bowls.

So what I've learned from this thread.
We need to out recruit and out coach Alabama.
Surprised no one else has thought about this. Finally the key to beating them has been found.

Exactly. Your not gonna get better players than them and Jones and his staff are not gonna out develop and out coach Saban and his staff.

Basically your hoping UGA and UF stay put.

I think Bama could have double the number of starters out that we have and it wouldn't make much difference. We're not close to their level right now. I've been pretty even tempered the past couple of seasons and have no intention of wallowing in this loss. I just don't think we have the players to stop, or outscore, the caliber of teams that we have to beat if we're going to reestablish the success of the 1990s.

So many salty Vols tears in this thread.

One complaining about Bama having too many points.

You complaining about Bama having too many good players.

The weakness is pitiful.

The problem is 1st AND. 2nd stringers are hurt in key positrons. Just tough.

Recruiting has been the one thing that has been good. O coaching o the other hand...

The only part of the 2017 class that I really feel good about is DL. It's hard to get an discussion on this subject going in the recruiting forum for whatever reason. Maybe an expert can come over here and explain to us how this class is supposed to help us take the next step.
