I don't see it either, actually. Though they've done it before. Lost to Auburn regular season a couple years ago, went to playoff anyway and won the Natty. Will the committee do it again? It depends on the other teams/conferences.

But I still don't think Tua is as good as Hurts.

If Ohio State, Clemson and LSU win out then those three will go. But OU has a loss, the PAC is a mess.

the playoff committee has standing orders to always include Bama regardless of record or whom they lost to. Mr Saban says so

Not to try to hijack the thread, but are you serious, dude?

Baylor controls their own destiny. if they control it successfully and if LSU, Clemson, tOSU remain undefeated, Bama is out.

Tua doesnt impress me. He plays with the consistently-best team in the NCAA. He's mediocre and they make him look good. I think he will tank in the NFL. The second coming of Mitch Trubisky. When the chips are down I would rather rely on Hurts than Tua. Tua came in and played one good second half in a big game and that sealed him as some kind of amazing player. And that was for a team that makes good half-time adjustments. I think Hurts would have won that game as well.

This ESPN article made me think about one loss teams.

Are Alabama's playoff hopes over? That, and more College Football Playoff questions

What if Ga wins out as well as the other teams then beats LSU in SECCG. Then, you have three one loss SEC teams. Surely the SEC winner gets the bid (GA) but, everyone knows about Bama’s pull.

Is it possible to have three SEC teams in playoff?

Alabama would only have a shot in that scenario if other conference teams had a complete meltdown and even then it would have to be massive.

Georgia would get a bid obviously and LSU would still get one but Alabama wouldn’t get in over a 1 loss Clemson, OSU, or OU. Alabama’s only hope is LSU wins out and there is some chaos in the other conferences.

It's fairly simple:

Bama needs LSU and tOSU to win out. They need Baylor and OU to each get one more loss. They need the Pac 12 champ or Clemson to get one more loss.

Disagree about Clemson. They’re not getting in with a loss unless all hell breaks loose.

Not winning the SECW
No conference Title
1 win against a P5 with a winning record

They need a lot of help this time and I just don’t see it

Assuming they beat Auburn they'll be in almost the exact same spot they were in 2017, unless there's 4 undefeated teams (LSU, Clemson, Ohio State/Minnesota, Baylor) they'll get in

There was a time,BSC era, that I could see 3 teams making it. Big ten, pac 12 were down.
I don’t think the SEC top to bottom this year can make that claim.
Name the best team Bama has beaten so far this season? your choices:
Duke
New Mexico State
Southern Miss
South Carolina
Ole Miss
Arkansas
Tennessee
Texas A&M

A&M gets the nod perhaps. Tennessee a distant 2nd?
First good team they face was LSU and were down 20 at halftime. Yes they made a game of it in the second half, but couldn’t close.

As for the SEC- some really pitiful teams this season. Strength of schedule should hurt UGA too. Face it. Arkansas, Missouri,Vandy,South Carolina, Kentucky,& Ole Miss, are not having good years. Bad enough to be calling for the coaches head. If Bama doesn’t win SEC, but still gets in, I think it’s a rigged game..

Ok then.
If I bet, I would bet Tua is chosen before Hurts. Sometimes those guys know. Remains to be seen who will have the better career.

The way it's set up now, supposedly looking for the best teams, anything is possible. It SHOULD be "conference champions only" getting ready for a larger playoff and eliminating judgement calls. Losing your conference title game and being rewarded by getting into the playoffs is ridiculous.

I think LSU, Clemson (they play no one) and OSU win out. That is 3 of your teams. The 4th team is tricky. I think it is between Oklahoma/Baylor, Oregon/Utah and Alabama.
Bama has a chance depending on how OK/Baylor game goes and Oregon/Utah game goes. Remember PAC 12 gets no respect (which they probably shouldn’t). To be honest Alabama is probably better than all 4 of these teams.
Going to be interesting this year.

So you believe if Tennessee and LSU both went 12-0 and dominated the competition and then Tennessee loses in SEC Championship game to LSU by 1 point they should not be considered for playoff? As you said it is suppose to be the best 4 teams.

It is pretty simple, I agree. For Bama to have any shot whatsoever they need at least 2 of the 5 Power 5 champions to have 2 or more losses. Without that they’re not even considered. If that were to happen then they get dropped in a bucket with 1 loss teams that didn’t win their conference if any exist. The problem there is that would likely involve an upset of Ohio St or LSU and those teams would get in over Bama. Clemson, LSU, and Ohio St seem to have pretty firm grips on 3 spots. I really don’t see Utah running the table so that leaves two teams Bama needs to lose again to have any shot, Oklahoma and Oregon. If either one of those teams wins out Bama is toast. The most fascinating argument will be who is #1? Ohio St or LSU? It should be LSU based on schedule but their crazy SOS measurements had OSU as having the tougher schedule between the two teams as of last week so who knows. Their measurement is completely flawed though. Yes, Indiana is 7-2 but they are nowhere nearly as good as 7-2 Auburn. I don’t know how the SOS works but it seems to be placing way too much value on wins over Cinci, Wisconsin, and IU when wins at Texas, over UF, over Auburn, and now at Bama are definitely better.

No way. LSU would go. Their resume would be so much stronger than Bama even if they lost to Ga by 2tds. Bama s best chance is if LSU goes undefeated.
