Ball State's 3 headed monsta!

Ball State isn’t WMU and frankly UT isn’t Pitt.
Pitt is getting a lot of love. IMO they were a team of pretty mediocre talent and 3 or 4 stars. A team like WMU doesn’t have to play too far over their heads talent wise. They just have to contain those stars and catch them napping after a big win

Pitt lost their NFL Drafted QB and their all world WR. Tenn should have beaten Pitt WITH them. This year Pitt is worse, Tenn is better. (A bunch better)

Agree.

When you look at teams that play in weak conferences or play weaker schedules, you have to look at the numbers behind the numbers. They were the ACC's best run D statistically but the two most talented rushing teams they played- UT and Clemson, both averaged over 4 ypc.

They are good up front but also scheme to stop the run and rush the passer. So they were statistically good vs the run and one of the tops in sacks in the nation. However they were 12th in Pass D out of 14 ACC teams. Teams got behind their secondary a lot including UT. IMO, the game last year would have looked a lot like Mizzou or USCe if Milton had hit those early shots. UT would have run out to a big lead and forced Pitt into a predictable gameplan. The Vols just let them hang around until they found something offensively.

Don't look now, but Ball State ain't exactly the pushover many are expecting. They made it to a Bowl game. They beat Amry and Western Michigan.

Also their QB is one of the best in conference. They have a WR who is on yhe Biletnikoff watch list😯.
Lastly they have tough as nails RB named Carson Steele

Actual pic of Hooker arriving at the stadium on gameday.

The thing about football that so many casual fans often overlook is the trenches. Every school in America has talented skill players & I mean EVERYONE. How many All-Conference OL & DL do they have?? If u can't win the trenches you can't win the he game.

The smaller schools (Ball st, other Mac teams, Sun belt, AAC) are much smaller, with the Power 5 teams outweighing them on the LOS by 20-50 lbs per Man (average)

Yes, Ball State is a cupcake team. Tennessee should win easily, but I don't understand why a lot of you seem happy about that. To me, it shows some disrespect to start an SEC team out, the caliber of Tennessee, playing a team that most High School teams could beat. I would rather Tennessee be one of the few teams starting out playing a good team. Hell, even Arkansas is starting out with Cincinnati. I just don't understand what playing a terrible team to start the season does for anyone.

Vols, 56-17. The "3 headed Monster" will be all UT: Hooker, Tillman, and Young. All three will show out. And there'll be at least another three in orange right behind them when the numbers are totaled. Nothing against Ball State, but they are about to get educated on why you should probably never schedule your season opener on the road against a rising SEC team.

Sometimes, your function in life is to serve as a cautionary tale to others. It is what it is.

Go Vols.

First, Ball St would not be beaten by most high school teams. That is a massive overstatement. Second, Arkansas plays Missouri State their 3rd game. I would rather start the season with an easy game. How is Arkansas going to feel if they lose to Cincinnati. Third, Tennessee does have a tough out of conference game against Pitt. I would rather play the out of conference easy and tough games in Tennessee’s order than Arkansas’s.

Look for more of that this year too. Hooker and company will carve them up. Tennessee has too much speed at the offensive skill positions.

When Arkansas scheduled Cincy, the Bearcats had had two 4-8 seasons in the previous 4 years.

These games get scheduled two ways. One, they're scheduled way out when you have no idea how good the team will be when you play them... or as last minute fill ins when you have little choice of opponent.

UT started out with and handled Ball State. UK was wholly unimpressive against another MAC team. TAM was unimpressive against an FCS team then lost to a G-5 team.

Everyone plays weaklings like this... Bama plays Austin Peay later in the year. UT just efficiently dispensed with Ball State.
