Baker Mayfield - Texas Tech QB

The main issue seems to be that he was promised a scholarship after his good start....but there seems to be some backtracking on that...TT has some salty commits at QB...so it's an old favorite...a numbers game

Does anyone know anything about Baker Mayfield transferring from Texas Tech? He earned a scholarship as a walk on and put up pretty good numbers this year- 4TD's vs Baylor. Any chance we take a look at him?

IMHO this is a no-no. If Butch goes after him the faith and chemistry he is building with current QBs and incoming recruits (specifically receivers) would definitely be shot to hell. They believe Dobbs is the future QB.
GO VOLS!

Then why would they show tape of Ferguson practicing to a 5 star recruit if Dobbs is the future? Just saying. I hope the competition brings the best out of all 3 (Worley too).

They showed tape of all of the qb's, not just Ferguson.

The kid looked impressive in his first couple of games. Not sure what happened after that. Could be a combination of an lingering injury and teh fact he was a true freshman. Just for the sake of comparison here is our passing stats compared to Baker's;

UT (Combined) - 191/340 (56.1%), 1,979 yards, 12 TD vs 16 INT

Baker Mayfield - 218/340 (64.1%), 2,315 yards, 12 TD vs 9 INT

I don't want a player who couldn't win the job in the first place. There are exceptions of course, but they usually don't pan out. Save the spot for a talented HS QB in the 2015 class.

Think before type. Make sentence before post.

He did not play although fully healthy for a few games and then started the last two games of the year. Yes he lost his job to injury. Then he was a backup. And then he started again at then end.

So you want a guy who can barely win a starting job at TTech to transfer to UT? Why don't we just bump the Gunner Kiel thread too.

How did our freshman do this year at quarterback?

I think the tape on Dobbs has been available for everyone's viewing. I doubt Saban goes to a recruit's house and shows him footage of McCarron. CBJ had to show Malone something he hasn't seen- that was Ferg's arm and athletic ability. Just my take on it.
