Not that rare. Clausen, Ainge and Bray for us. Eric Zeir was the first true freshman QB I remember who enrolled early and started right out the bat for UGA. Fromm took over for Eason after an injury and he done the deed the season before. Jayden Daniels easily for Arizona State this season. JT Daniels last season for USC. The other USC has Tyler Hylinski who replaced a 3 year starter from his true freshman season in Jake Bentley. These are all from a non-Googling 50 year old mind. I’m sure MANY MANY more can be contributed by others. If JG exits (and I think he will), it’ll be open competition and Maurer really doesn’t have a formidable advantage in experience considering the games Maurer and Shrout have been able to participate. What’s been impressive about Maurer is the performance he’s produced from a raw skill set...almost force of will. Have to trust the staff will identify the right candidateQB’s that come in and beat out the current roster QBs are rare. I’m sure Bailey is good. Peyton, Lawrence, Fromm, etc. are a rare breed. It’s hard to do as good as Mauer honestly if he’s stayed healthy could’ve broke some freshman records here IMO. We will see.
