Baghdad Sean Spicer Strikes Again

Trump has consistently pointed at the size of US Forces as the bellwether of military capability.

Adding fleets of planes, ships and tanks and more ground forces is a far less efficient expenditure than investing in the force multipliers that make smaller fleets and battalions more capable and efficient.

I'm not suggesting we not spend money on the military, i simply question trumps rational for the astronomical amount of the increase. If he is the business man he says he is, he should be negotiating better pricing through his defense contractor cronies not soaking every other aspect of government and not addressing the underlying issue in Washington.... Agreed 100%

Agree, but...

It does appear we have cut the overall force numbers to unacceptable levels. Technology can only go so far in replacing boots on the ground.

But you are correct, the acquisition system is in dire need of an overhaul.

How are acceptable levels of BOGs determined?

Sure, I do. You fit the bill in every capacity.

College educated by the way, ****stick. Keep fabricating. Between that and treating people as vessels, it's all you're good for.

You probably meant collage..your finger paintings aren't as good as your momma said they were. And apparently you didnt study well in Armchair Psych 101 because your message board diagnosis is fairly inaccurate. I applaud the effort. Its nice to see the special people of the world making a real effort in society. :clapping:

On a side note..why do I get the feeling you played a weird instrument as a kid..like the triangle? Or bagpipes..probably bagpipes. You seem like a bagpipes type of guy...lots of cacophonous blowing of hot air. I could be wrong. You probably had no talent at all.

You still listen to death metal and hate dogs. That's worse than any accusation you can throw my way, squirrelpeter.

There are several different measuring sticks involved, so there isn't one way to determine. However, if I was to do it myself, I would say determine the most realistic threat we face in accordance with treaties and whatnot and the military power necessary to defeat same. Add in a "strategic reserve" in case of another flare up and call it what we need. And all this without a massive call up of Guard and Reserves. Some will be needed obviously, but not a widespread call up to disrupt the lives of all Guardsmen and Reserves.

The days of attempting to fight two Major Theater Wars and a "brushfire" war are long gone. But realistically the potential to fight say a Korean War along with a limited deployment elsewhere in the world is completely plausible.

Then why are you bemoaning the defense budget. This technology that you speak of constitutes about 90% of the defense budget. The issue is our acquisitions of these new platforms that wastes billions of dollars. Either way when you look at man power vs tech, tech is always more expensive (i.e. 22 mil for a F-22, millions for each drone, hundreds of thousands for each precision guided munition). You cant have a low budget and a tech driven military. They are diametrically opposed.

Because it is currently larger than the next several (8?, 10?) countries combined. Don't you think that's too much?

How long does it take to prep BOGs who volunteer in times of threat for battle?

Why wouldnt a skeleton crew of boots suffice with the ability to train noobs so quickly? (Assuming months is quickly)

Because you aren't dealing with just trigger pullers. I said months as a minimum. You start getting into more specific, but critical jobs, that time can go up significantly. Just think about those that work in the satellite (space) related fields. That job can be six months or more to learn.

Look at WWII and some of the buttkickings our forces took before we were able to get enough people up to speed to start taking back what we lost. You ask if a "skeleton crew" would be sufficient while training up "noobs." I ask if you ever recall a little place called Bataan where a skeleton crew was trying to hold out for replacements.
