Bad tailgating experience, need help identifying fraternity.

For what it's worth, this thread is too long and this will likely get swallowed up whole as it's now at 19 pages of arguing about this. But here's my thoughts as a UT grad ('00) and not a parent.

1. Posting about this 2 days later, rather than grabbing a few other concerned tailgaters to go over and respectfully asking them to play more appropriate music is a little silly. Seriously, 3-4 grown ass men standing on their porch asking a simple polite question likely solves this entire issue.

2. You said you graduated in '06, that makes you ~33 years old. Why did you not do step 1? Make it funny, go over and ask if they're taking requests, and see if they'll play Rocky Top like they're a club or radio DJ.

3. People complaining about the younger generation, are the same people who had the generation of people above them complaining about how bad you were. Times change, we keep seeing this. Technology is changing the generations exponentially, to the point of they'll hear this type of stuff sooner than later. See step 1.

4. These are kids, that have experienced painful UT football mediocrity growing up and through their first few years of the college football experience. Not an excuse for complete disregard of the public surrounding them, but this was likely the best day of partying they've ever experienced. They overdid it. See step 1.

5. These kids will, hopefully, look back on this experience as not one of their finest moments. As they get older, have a family, and understand your displeasure I bet they would have regrets of the way they were acting, if you'd followed step 1.

6. Music today is really sh!tty. See steps 1-2.

I broke the first rule

It's a college campus, not a church. The "**** you, Florida" chants by the student section all game long kind of exemplify that. Don't like it? Then don't go

So it being a college campus gives the next generation of tenn alumni the right to act with absolute disrespect towards any and all. Simply because there young and in college? I fear for this country if your mentality is the trend.

Thanks for the logical and real world solutions.. Response

1-2 As someone who works in public service and has on a regular basis dealt with drunk kids like that you are very naive if you think that is reasonable or works. All you have to do is look at the attitude of the ones posting in here.

This is the stupidest thread I've seen all week. I guarantee you those kids didn't know they were offending anyone, they were just drunk and playing some music they liked. Also, being in that park, and not very far from the house at all, you would have to have had super hearing to make out any lyrics coming from Chi Phi, as every tailgate there was blasting music. I went in that house several times on Saturday, there was nothing wrong or out of the ordinary with what they were doing.

I swear to God. We had a big win, so some people just need to find something to ***** about.

The guy complaining went there to tailgate, but not the game. Common sense say he is just out looking for crap to complain about. He has probably complained about minor crap in Rhea County enough that everyone there ignores him on sight, and decided to give UT and VolNation a go.

If he went to the game and had a complaint, I could see his problem. But if his presence just makes traffic worse? As if it isn't bad enough? The Hell with it. He isn't supporting the team. He is just getting in the way and looking for attention.

KMA. Greek life is, by definition, anti inclusion and for those with money to pay dues over the already too high cost of education. and should be banned from every campus in America. It's time for the Greek Fraternity system in America to die.

Butthurt much? By anti-inclusion, do you mean we don't let every jackass who had a handful of money in? Then, yup, you'd be right. If you're bringing race/religion into this, then you are patently wrong and stupid. There are blacks, asians, indians, hispanics, etc in most fraternities these days. This isn't 1953 when it was a the white boy club.

Chi Phi it is.

I was tailgating less than 100 yards away from that Chi Phi house and did not hear what you are describing. We had our own music on a very small portable speaker and it was not being drowned out by "blaring rap music". I think maybe you are exaggerating the situation or being overly sensitive. Next time bring a speaker of your own and you can blare 80's Billy Joel back at them

Your opinion is beyond stupid. How many people tailgate but not go to a game each Saturday in Knoxville....10,000-20,000?

I went to tailgate as well, and did not go to the game. I was in that park from about 7AM until just before kickoff, when I went to Cool Beans to watch. I can tell you with 100% certainty that there was absolutely nothing out of the ordinary there. This was our big tailgate for the year, where we usually have 50+ people from all over the country, and we had a mess of kids there too. DLV is really fishing here. I help pay the mortgage on the house in question along with many of my friends, so we keep a close eye on the place.

This is a witch hunt, plain and simple.

The group of Florida students beside me were pretty much at a loss for words about it. The large black gentleman that was with them said he was going to go "fix the situation".... you either "misremember" or your attention was elsewhere.

Perhaps, but the guy, that I assume is in that fraternity based on his equivalent of a 'come at me, bro' statement earlier, agreed with my stance. As I mentioned, I don't have any kids, and I don't know your experience in the public sector, but a simple explanation that there are a lot of families in the area on a day like that, might go farther than you'd think. I'm also a glass is half full kinda guy though, so what do I know.

Wait...you sent a visiting team's fan over to quell the situation? How'd you think that would end? Go with him, give them a unified front of, 'hey guys, we get that it's gameday and it's a party day, y'all have fun today, but c'mon and reel it in a notch with the highly vulgar music'.

We tailgated on one of the hills beside the Lake Avenue Parking garage on Saturday. Pretty good mix of adults, college kids and young children. All is going well until the dip**** fraternity across the street decides to start blaring the most insanely vulgar rap music I have ever heard......and I graduated from UT in 2006 so im quite familiar. They had gigantic speakers aimed toward the tailgating area on the second floor of the house, out the window blaring...im talking BLARING lyrics such as......

"then ill f her brains out"
"grab her neck and f her brains out"
"smack that a and f her brains out...." etc....

There were no less than 25-30 children under the age of 10 playing in that area and we were a good 100 yards from the house and could hear that **** as plain as day. Even the younger crowd in the area, clearly college-aged kids were taken aback by it all. My three year old was asleep and my one year old thankfully doesnt know any better....but it was infuriating. It is one or two houses to the left of the Farmhouse fraternity....not sure who it is now. Can someone identify that fraternity?

It made me seriously reconsider tailgating with my family in the future unless I can get to the blue-hair section near the stadium.

Was that really bad?

I bet you're also the guy telling me to sit down all game. If you have children, prob not the best idea to tailgate in front of a frat house. The more you know.

Butthurt none, I saw their black soul and quit. The only thing frats are for is to game the system so they can party. All their philanthropies, Carnicus, ...everything is exclusionary. You're greek or you're not. Greek is cool and you aren't greek. They're a useless throwback to last century for morons with a pack mentality to stick their noses up each others azz.

The kids who are adult enough to stand on their do. Those who can't, or want to pay for friends, or just pay to party... they go greek. You think otherwise, you're deluded. And the party boiz, they turn their house into an animal zoo. Bring in girls to pull a train. Blare crap "music" out the window that is incredibly misogynistic. "Coach" there "sister" sororitie's basketball team arrive late, drunk and stoned and giggle to each other, "Smell aaall that *****"! Fraternities incubate some of the sickest little shiets on campus.

While "woman hating" misogyny certainly is not the most appropro word to describe the abject disrespect for women the frats tolerate, if not engender, in turning them into nothing but a hole where to poke their penis, it certainly often seems to fit. And in fact, in the OP's first post and original complaint is an archtype.
Srew the Greek system. Get rid of it.

I was born in 90' so I am a millennial but by god if I was going to listen to garbage music I wouldn't play it to where kids would here. My dad would whoop my ass (I mean actually whoop my ass) if he heard I exposed children to the likes of that. That being said, it is a public event and there are undoubtedly some idiots in this world.
