Bad News Coming at Vandy...

“The review concluded that Mr. Boyd’s admitted actions are clearly inconsistent with the high standards of behavior expected of our student-athletes.”

Vanderbilt’s administrators will allow Boyd to continue to be a student.

Isn't it odd that they specify student-athlete, but are allowing him to remain a student but not an athlete. Insinuating the standards are higher for athletes than students. Think we see him back on the team next year?

Vandy announced this afternoon that Boyd has now been kicked off the team. I guess it took them 4 days to realize that he shouldn't be on the team anymore after the sordid details on Friday came out. Also, Carta-Samuels was "wrongly identified" as one of the individuals who helped move the rape victim. However, Boyd stated in his text message that he helped move her. I guess he could've made a mistake, but how do you misidentify someone who helped out with that? I guess it's possible. The spokeswoman for the DA's office also stated that, "moving the girl's body does not constitute a crime".

Edit: I must've skipped a page and didn't see that someone had already posted the link. It sure seems fishy that a starting WR would misidentify the starting QB. Something sure as hell doesn't smell right.

No, he's a Jr and will go into the NFL draft. His stock just plummeted though.

Conspiracy theory time boys and girls.

So Boyd gets kicked off the football team but not out of school, seems odd given the others were dismissed immediately from the University. Was he convinced by someone at the school to fall on the sword for the "greater good of the team"?

"Boyd wrongly identified student Austyn Carta-Samuels as someone who participated in helping move the victim"

Starting WR misidentified his starting QB?

Ok Vandy.

I tweeted this same question to the Zone this afternoon when the news came out and they were covering it. Brent read my tweet and asked Clay Travis how its possible. Clay said I don't know and that was the end of that part of the discussion. This is an aspect of this case that needs to be further questioned and examined.

100% agree. What an absolute joke it is.

I agree, but of course the "Flagship Station of the Vols" has given Vandy cover during this whole mess.

The only explanation that makes sense is auto-correct on his phone misspelled someone else's name.

Otherwise, what's the explanation? "I thought the guy helping me move the unconscious victim and who was less than a foot away from me was someone else, even though he's the starting QB and we've been teammates for a year."?

Even if that is the explanation, then why hasn't van der Wal been dismissed from the team? Or is that also a case of mistaken identity?

So telling someone to delete a video is considered tampering with evidence and is a crime, but moving an Unconscious rape victim isn't?

He was just trying to move her from a compromising position, into the safety of the hallway. His quality, selfless decisions on the field make him valuable to Vanderbilt football, but his selfless decisions off the field make him valuable to Vanderbilt University.

Signed, Coach James Franklin, Vanderbilt University

translation..Boyd was kicked off the team but allowed to keep his scholarship as long as he doesn't implicate Carta-Samuels in any way.

I personally see nothing wrong with what he did. He was ushered to their dormitory, and most likely thought the girl was drunk & passed out.... therefore he carried her into Vandenburg's bed, and laid her there, in hopes that she would sleep it off. I really don't think he had any knowledge of the situation. I think he needs to remain our Quarter Back. As for Boyd, I'll still support him because he hasn't been released yet.

I've actually done this exact same thing and I'm sure it happens nearly every weekend at colleges across the country. A friend of mine gave me a call at like 2 in the morning because the girl he had taken out had gotten WAY too drunk and passed out in his bathroom. She also had vomit all over her clothes. He wanted to help her out, but he also didn't want her or anyone else to think that he had taken advantage of her. We basically decided to leave her nasty clothes on and we moved her to his couch. When he woke up the next day she had gone home. She actually apologized and thanked him later for taking care of her.

Is the DA inept, or is the DA trying not to disclose evidence relevant to the case? This is freaking bizarre

What this tells me is that there will never be a trial in this case.

All will plead and recieve much lighter sentences than the max.

According to the timeline, the girl was unconscious in the hallway after she was assaulted. Then, Boyd and 2 unknown accomplices moved her back into Vandenberg's room - the very same room she was assaulted in. The whole thing stinks. I'm not ready to say there is a cover up at the institutional level, but I am confident that more people knew what was happening and did nothing that night.

You're probably right. Why else would the DA go out of his way to say that Carta-Samuels was "misidentified," then also say that moving the victim isn't a crime in and of itself?

How was the starting QB misidentified by a starting WR?

Why does it matter if he was misidentified if his alleged involvement isn't criminal?

Why would you read the texts identifying Carta-Samuels into the record in open court if they were inaccurate? Why not correct the inaccuracy on the record?
