I made 4 Volunteer Jams. III was the first one. They were awesome.I saw them at Starwood as the headliner of Charlie Daniel’s Volunteer Jam. It was the first time they’d played together since their plane crash. They didn’t announce who was going to perform until they were introduced. Needless to say, the place erupted when Charlie told everyone it was LS.
I got to see Stevie Ray Vaughan and Great White that day too.
Any old heads remember an outdoor festival in Charlotte, football stadium, in ‘73/‘74 ?
ZZTop was very new to scene, Allmone Bros, can’t remember much maybe Nugent but one lead guitarist crowd surfed, never missed a lick
Just old Guy
Dude I was 10That’s way old heads. @NorthDallas40
I think the one I went to was in ‘87. It was at Starwood and I had a great time. I was 19 and a group of us went.I made 4 Volunteer Jams. III was the first one. They were awesome.
RIP Charlie
lol… it’s amazing how hard we could party back in the day.Similar but different. Saw Willie Nelson's 4th of july Picnic in '83 at Atl Motor Speedway (then AIR). 300,000 people. Whole infield was packed solid. Doobies everywhere. Total smoke out. David allen Coe parachuted in. also had Linda ronstadt, Waylon & Jessie, Stray Cats, and Willie. 100 degrees down in that infield that day. Whew!.
Saw wu tang in Jax but method man wasn't at the show because he was doing promos for one of those soul plane movies, so we drove to Tampa a few days later for their next show when he was back. Both great shows.
Skynyrd is a cover band now...
I saw them in Nash with Method Man, De la Soul, and Talib Kweli. I enjoyed it but left feeling concerned for GZA's health.
I suspect he had a stroke and it never leaked.
Edit: also Nas was ****ing there. What a line up.
