Game has been talked about for some time now and since the release is just a couple of months away, posting some info gathered from OS.

General Info:

May 18th release date. Price: $49.99

Euphoria--Physics based on the fly tackles….yeah you already know, lol

Powerful logo creator like seen in Forza. Can be used to create logos, uniforms, end zones.

2 Camera views. Over the shoulder 3rd person view presenting an “on the field” experience. Coach Cam can be used to pick plays and let cpu play itself.

60 ready made teams and the ability to create 32 user teams.

No commentary. On the field sounds. Players call out play directions, audibles etc. stadium PA announcer.

Weather: Rain confirmed by a dev and screenshots. No word on snow, wind that I know of.

Injuries appear to not be included in the game.

Penalties confirmed in vids. No official list that I know of.

13 Stadiums 10 available at start, 3 locked

Team playbooks. Not customizable due to balancing issues. (Gamerpops)

Player Ratings based on Gold, Silver and Bronze system. “Attribute system works hand in hand with Euphoria and takes away the dice roll system” (Gamerpops)

2 player local games will be done in split-screen. 1vs1 or 2vs2 online play.

Controls:

Ball Carrier:
Analog running, no turbo.
Right stick does jukes to left/right, flick up makes you leap a defender while rotating the stick in a circle does spin moves.
Holding the right trigger does power moves with the right stick. Left/Right would be stiff arms, up would be “trucking”. “A“ button on X-box switches ball hand. (IGN: August 2008 and June 2009)

Passing: Primary WR can be set pre-snap by holding Left trigger and flicking the stick. After the snap, flicking the stick right/left scans field. Flicking up is a bullet pass, pulling back is a lob pass. (IGN March 2010)
Left trigger puts the QB into focus mode. It tracks the movement of your primary receiver during the play while narrowing field of vision.

Modes:
Traditional franchise with 8,16, or 32 team leagues involving either pre-existing or custom teams. Includes trades, scouting and drafting players. (Gamerpops March 2010)

“Road to BB” Franchise. Try an conquer an 8 team league, finishing in top moves you to a 16 team league. Finishing in the top again moves you to a 32 team league. Finish in the bottom and go down to the lower league. (Gamerpops March 2010)

Tackle Alley mini game online and locally. (Gamerpops March 2010)

Additional unnamed minigames. (Destructoid, March 2010)

2 ways to play each mode. Arcade and Pro. Arcade gives the user on the field glowing indicators and 4 play types: Run, Pass, Special and Ask Coach. Pro turns the indicators of and allows the user to choose specific plays.

From Joystiq

"Backbreaker may be the greatest football game no one will ever play. While I can attempt to detail its incredible use of the Euphoria physics engine, its spectacular graphics and truly innovative gameplay, all these features are moot thanks to the crippling fact that the game does not have the NFL license. Without the license, the annual Madden devotee won't have this on his (or her!) radar -- ironic, because Backbreaker makes good on the lofty promises of Madden 06's teased "CG movie" effect, which EA Sports has yet to deliver on, even four years later."

i have the mobile version of this on my iPhone. its pretty cool.

It's just the Tackle Alley minigame for those curious. Still pretty fun for 99 cents. This game interests me but I'm sure it would take at least one sequel to get things semi-right.

licenses are not a deal breaker if the gameplay is good. I'll give it a go.

Some hands-on preview impressions from Game Informer:

Backbreaker Hands-On

Personally, very disappointed with the feature set and customization, even for a brand new title.

i'll probably give this a look eventually. almost positive that it won't be anywhere near as good as madden, but i'd still like to give it a shot.

It.........will...........suck!!!! No injuries and no fatigue is the worst thing possible that you could leave out of a football game imo. Was interested in it as first, but the only chance I would play this game is via rental.

i must have missed that in the article. that's pretty lame if true

i mainly just want to try it out to see what the physics engine is like to be honest.

I am interested in the engine as well, but with the new engine that the EA games have stepped up with(if they are what they say they are), I dont see putting much in BB especially 60 bucks.

it would be a rental for me, nothing more. there's no way i would actually pay retail price for the thing.

Release date pushed back a month or two.

Think it matters? I don't. I'm pretty sure I'd rather get Tecmobowl on XBLA than this title.

If this and All Pro Football were coming out on the same day, it might have been interesting to gamble on which one sold the least. 2K had prior fans and what appears to be a much better customization engine and it flopped terribly.

I'm pretty interested in this game. I hate EA's buggy, poorly developed football games. I'm not buying another one until they hire a QA staff. Plus, I dont really buy football games to fuel a man crush, or hear "touchdown Tennessee" (although its nice to hear). I just want a good football game to play.

The BB demo is out now on Marketplace. Didnt have time to download it this morning, but there are some very good impression on it from what I have read.

Tried out the demo over the weekend and I was surprised how well the euphoria seemed to work. Saw many nice blocking interactions and just the overall "feel" of the game was refreshing. I still dont think I will buy it because the player models are terrible and the lack of the NFL in it, just doesnt warrant a buy from me. But a very good demo and I will definitly rent it.

played the demo

not sure what to think. it had some pretty cool elements but also some pretty terrible ones. the physics engine is interesting, although the hits and tackles weren't as intense as i thought they would be. i agree with rp on the passing controls. i thought they sucked. i know they are going for the "close to the action" feel with the player perspective, but you can barely see anything when you drop back to pass. the traditional passing system would have worked better. not too sure about the defensive side of the ball either. it's cool the way they have it set up but at the same time awkward. i might still give this a rental but that's probably as far as it goes.

I won't waste a penny on this game. No NFL licensing/passing controls/sucky player models/sucky POV makes it a no rent or buy for me.
