Back Off Crompton

This has to be one of the dumbest posts I've read.

1. Don't play the highly touted recruit card. There are always plenty of busts from EVERY year's top recruits. Just look at previous years of rivals top recuits, and you will see plenty of under acheivers and guys you never heard of because they didn't pan out.

2. It is hard to consider Crompton such a true Volunteer fan after I read how he cried himself to sleep last season because he thought he deserved to be starting over Ainge because he felt like he was better; and that his family had to talk him into not transferring over it. Plus, being a devout UT fan may be a good story if you are a walk-on or a special teamer, it means squat if you are playing the most important position on the field at such a horrendous level.

3. Coaches can't fix stupid. Do you think they want him staring down one receiver than panicking? You think they don't go over the film repeatedly showing him all of the wide open receivers he missed? The problem is Crompton doesn't listen and isn't smart enough or doesn't push himself hard enough to learn. Ultimately, it is up to the player to have the constant desire to always learn and to always try to improve.

4. I'm so tired of people trying to put most of the blame on Clawson. There have been some questionable play calls, but every single team in every single game has plays that people could question. Players are getting wide open multiple times a game, but Crompton is missing them. That is all Crompton. It is bad when announcers make comments like "There is no way Crompton did the right thing there, unless his coaches tell him not to throw touchdown passes to wide open receivers across the middle of the field."

Just face it, Crompton has thought he was great ever since he stepped foot on campus, and refuses to think otherwise. Because of that I question his work ethic and attitude. And it is obvious he doesn't listen to his coaches. A perfect example of that was shown on the sidelines after one of the 72 failed 3rd down conversions. Auburn sends and all out blitz, and Crompton decides to take off. The cameras showed Phil yelling 'damn" and afterwards it shows Crompton trying to give the "but coach, but coach" speech while Fulmer just keeps saying "I told you to throw it, I told you to throw it". Fulmer should have sacked up right then and not let him go back into the game.

What I hear you saying is that because Crompton thinks so highly of himself he is basically uncoachable. Could it be?

Classic example of a "cannon arm" and "rubber band gun" brain.

And Fulmer has no sack to bench him.

If Fulmer sticks with Crompton, this is...maybe..a 5 win season.

We got what we paid for, huh?

Divide Fulmer's salary by the number of wins.

There ya go.

go vls.

People should back off of Crompton. This is beyond being his fault. It is absurd for the coaches to continue to put him on the field.

Crompton flat out...SUCKS!!!!! end of discussion...he needs to be benched...period...he can't even pass the ball in the general direction of the WR's

I don't know that I have ever seen an offense call a QB draw, the D is obviously about to blitz and the QB is not smart enough to check out of it.

I don't know who it was he didn't see in the back of the endzone on the 2pt play but I thought that was part of the basics. Look for the guy that is actually in the endzone and if he is covered throw short, the guy in the endzone was WIDE open.

Yes, he's made some mis-reads, over throws, and threw some picks. Every QB in history has done so.

Don't ya'll remember when Crompton was getting recruited that he was highly touted as a dual threat QB? He also convinced several others from that class (D-MO, for example) to come to Tennessee. Crompton is like most of us on here - Here's a true Tennessee Volunteer fan. Once he signed, he was part of what many considered to be the best signing class in the nation.

Now, a bunch of armchair knuckleheads are claiming he's an awful quarterback and should be benched. You see the problem is not Crompton, he's just not being developed by his coaches. His game play often looks pitiful, but that's not ALL his fault. Dave Clawson should take the majority of the blame for our offensive woes this season. :banghead2:

Crompton may have the physical ability to play at this level. I have seen a few plays where he looked very good(few as in 3 or 4 out of 4 games). So I have to think his problem is mental and work ethic. Does he go down progressions? Is the QB and the WR's working from the same playbook? Can someone in the huddle mention "hey it's 3rd down don't throw it away"? Is there some ulterior motive?

Whatever the reason. He needs to be benched. No open competition. Sit the bench with possibility of coming back when improvement is shown. I would sit Foster also or use as backup to Hardesty and Creer.

That is an entirely different aspect. Yeah, he should have already been pulled. Dude was saying Crompton's performance isn't his fault, and that is BS.

I can't believe this thread hasn't been deleted. Crompton is so bad.... Back off of Crompton???? The guy has been in the spotlight for 4 games now and shouldn't be. Fulmer must have felt compelled to give him a shot after 3 years of waiting, but he has had his shot, cost us at least two games. He sucks and needs to be benched. Not sure how anyone can argue that point. I don't care what system we are running or who the OC is, that has nothing to do with the crazy passes Crompton has been making.

This thread is sarcastic right? I honestly believe I have never seen a QB play this bad in my life.

In the past 40 something years I have watched the Vols play, they give the qb's a fair chance to remain the starter(check). They replace them when they realize they can't cut it (check). There is no room for pity (check). Nothing against Crompton but the time has come.

I haven't posted this season but yesterday was as frustrating as any game I have seen. I'm sure others have noticed, but I see little humility from Crompton. He needs to be a leader and accept responsibility for his poor play and lack of improvement. He has earned a spot on the bench. It seems the game is too fast for him. Your post is right we give people a chance, such as Sterling Henton, Randy Wallace..etc. I am really proud of our effort especially on defense. An effecient offense and we would have started no worse than 3-1.

I am a huge JC fan ever since I was able to go to a minor league baseball game with him and Wes Brown over the summer. I hate to see him and the team struugle this way. He had high hopes for the season.

Crompton has earned a lot of criticism by himself. He's had plenty of time and chances to prove himself. Time to give somebody/anybody else a chance.

All true Vol fans hate to see any player struggle, and we hate to see the team struggle. We all had high hopes for this season.

The team must come first. JC just has not gotten the job done. I hate it for him, but most of all, I hate it for the team.

He hasn't earned a break! He has been a pain from day 1 IMO. His attitude sucks! His play sucks even worse! A coach that left him in the game performing like he has sucks too!

I agree that he hasn't played well and that a change is needed for the good of the team. I'm just saying that he's a good kid and I hate that all his hopes for this season have not panned out.
