I was there the year Clausen threw the hail mary before half time - The florida fans were awesome after the game - we stayed and partied in their clubs all night -

I think it just depends on how much crap YOU are talking!!

By the way - just wanted to let you guys know that PHIL FULMER is FAT!@!

Oh yeah - did anyone catch "Mr. I have my chest painted" before the game flipping the camera off and dropping an F bomb??

How's that for class??

I am sorry if any of the Vol fans experienced any hostility after the game yesterday. However to classify our fans as the worst when you have no idea is ridiculous. I have been to Neyland stadium several times and each time we had a decent time except for the classless few at your school also. We had bottles and cups thrown at us and one drunken idiot even puked on me. Needless to say after that incident we have not been back. Most fans though were very classy.

I was in line at the concession stand with numerous fans yesterday from Tenn and I never heard one rude comment from any Gator fans. I even talked with some Vol fans who said with the exception of the score and the heat they had a good time. I would have to say of all the SEC venues we have been to the worst fans were Georgia. Out of the SEC Miami is another story. No way to explain their fans.

Don't classify all Gator fans as low class because a few fans (probably drunk) ruined it for you. I wish alcohol was banned on all campuses because of the garbage spewed by those who choose to imbibe too much.

Good luck on the rest of your season.

As I said in a previous post, the two times (2001 & 2003) I have been to the Swamp, it wasn't all that bad. We did win both games but even before the games, we got the occassional comments walking to the stadium but nothing that really stood out and nothing worse than what visitors to Neyland get.

F Fayetteville though. The way we got treated there.....never going back.

I agree, all schools do have them. We had a party at a friends house and a Gator fan was there. He was total class, nice guy and gracious in victory.

Having said that, I have also been to all SEC stadiums with the exception of LSU and AU, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, we were treated the worst by the Gator fans. UGA fans were terrible, Bama fans were condescending, but UF fans were in a complete league of their own (although I hear LSU ain't no picnic either)

We caught the UF @ LSU game back in 00 or 01 and I gotta tell you it made my wife completely sick. The LSU fans we walked by would not take no for an answer. We must have eaten 5 times before we even got in the stadium. The only problem we had during the game was getting a coke thrown at us by some clown in a FSU hat. I'd go back to LSU anyday.

I'll admit it, Gator fans are tough on the competition. But as already said, so are a lot of places.

I have never been to Neyland, but would like to. Do you really think that I would not be worried if I were wearing Gator gear?

If you guys come to Gainesville for a game, try riding one of the GatorAider buses. They run from most of the mall parking lots right up to the stadium, and are waiting to load when the game lets out. Having to park and then walk a gauntlet of drinking boozing tailgaters, especially after dark would bother the hell out of me, too. I used to try and park close to the stadium and then walk to the game, but once I found the bus service, it was well worth the $5 to ride, and those that usually ride the buses aren't drunk and unruly, as these aren't tailgaters and tend to be older fans - of both teams. Besides, I usually take one of my boys when I go to a game, and like any parent, I try to set a good example. There are ways to get to the game and avoid the bad fans, if you know how.

Also, I guess I may different from most of the obnoxious fans you may have seen, as I haven't seen very much of what you guys have, and that may because I don't associate myself with those who exhibit the bad behavior.

You want to see some really bad behavior, go to a FL-UGA game at the Gatorbowl. I have had bottles, pizza, drinks, and lots of other stuff thrown at me - while I was sitting in the stands at the game! UGA fans have to be the worst of any I have ever seen, even when they won all the games. The most obnoxious fan I think I ever saw at a Gator game in Gainesville, had to be a Kentucky fan, who was drunk, sitting outside of the southendzone before the game, who screamed and hollered profanities and gatorhater epithets at every Gator fan that walked by. He kept up the harrassment, even as he went to his seats. The only thing that finally stopped him, was the extreme heat that is there in the visitor stands in the afternoon, and the guy finally fell out from the heat and rescue had to come to his aid.

Try walking across the bridge in Knoxville, in the rain wearing Gator gear. Not only did every car splash us, they threw every bottle, can, and finger they had at us. But, as mentioned already, the best way to shut them up is to win..and what a win it was 31-0 on the new UT grass. My new bride at the time actually kicked some drunk UT dude in the marbles after the game purely from reflex, after he caught his breath he said he just wanted to congratulate us. Ended up being a pretty alright dude.

...I even talked with some Vol fans who said with the exception of the score and the heat they had a good time....

Wow, is there anywhere that could be hotter than the east stands, in the afternoon, at Florida field? I remember back in the 60's when I was a student at UF, we had to dress in coat & tie for the home games - just an absolutely miserable experience. I can only imagine how bad it is for the visitors who aren't used to the extreme heat and humidity. Not to mention, that since the entire stadium has been closed in pretty much, you don't even get a breeze thru the place. The last time I sat in the student section with my son when he was still a student at UF, those knuckleheads stood for the enitre game - no one sits down. At least while they were all standing, I could sit down and get some shade, I think I saw more butts than plays!:shaking2:

Over the years I have been to every stadium in the eastern division and most in the west. Florida is the only place I have been mistreated, abused, cursed, etc. That was '99 and I would never return. We were guests of Florida fans, and they said they would never ask fans of other schools to accompany them to BHG. They were stunned by the actions even though they were wearing all their gator garb and clearly with us. I think they were also intimidated by their own fan base.

Both of the "worse" venues that you cited are in Fla: you always play Ga. in Jacksonsville, and where is Miami?:
Face it: it must be something about Floridians.:realmad:

No contest, Gainesville is the worst place I've been on the road. Hands down. Yes, there are a few bad apples everywhere, but it's the only town where they have definitely "spoiled the whole damn bunch" (GNR).

Nota bene: I have not been to Baton Rouge for a game (thanks, largely, to Katrina).

Wait this is unfair! True the Swamp may be the worst fans/place right now, but we have not been a consistent winner in 10yrs! Give us some time to regain our title please. :D

I've never had an issue with bama fans and would make a trip there anytime.

The Florida fans were really really classless. We parked a mile away from the Swamp at a friends house. We walked down University and all I could hear was
Vols are Gatorbait!
Go home we dont want you here!!!!
Vols suck Vols suck Vols suck
#$%@ the Vols
If we were not playing you, Gameday would be here!
Many Gators spewing anti Vol propaganda on MEGAPHONES!!!!
and many many more! I can truly say I did not remember the Swamp being anywhere near this bad. I have a new found HATE for the Gators. The Gator TD right before the first half ended I was walking down the steps and one guy yelled in my ear and another waved and said bye to every Vol who walked by! I was Pissed!
LAW you have a solid team in the Gators and you can have them, because your fan base is COCKY CLASSLESS SHOW OFFS! Congrats on the win you have a great great coach and TT is a playmaker in a great system!

I am ready to replace our coach. Here is why!
1. Pass to the RB / Quick slant
2. Run Coker our speed back up the middle/Run Foster on a sweep who is a better power runner and slower than Coker.
Repeat til you R down by 35 or not in field goal range! DO NOT THROW ANY PASSES OVER LINE OF SCRIMAGE!!!!!!!
Props to our Oline GREAT WORK:thumbsup:except run blocking:blink: PHIL YOU CANNOT BEAT THE GATORS (A HIGH SCORING O)BY KICKING FGs!!!!!!!!!!!
Florida could be up 28. Vols reaction- x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 4 and 1 on the 2yard line x3
Thats my day!!!!! I will end this by saying GO VOLS I still love ya!!!!! I am really tired so sorry about the bad grammer, spelling ect.

well i on the other hand was very impressed by the fans we met.. we met a whole lot of fans down there of all ages and everyone was extremely nice. the fans in the stands were alittle obnoxious but i can handle someone taunting me all day... as long as nobody throws something or resorts to violence then im good. we had a blast in gainesville and i would love to go back.

I didn't know where to put this since there are over 350 different threads on the Fl./Tenn. game so I will post it here. Don't hang your heads too much over this one as you just played probably the best offense college football has ever seen. Wow! Florida will outscore any team they play. With the possible exception of us.

LSU will waste them.

If it makes you feel better, then keep on believing. Truth is: we no longer play on the same level as teams such as Florida.

Oh, and in response to 7's comment above: glad you were treated well. I can assure you that your experience is not the norm. Having been to Gaines-hell and with multiple good friends who have been multiple times, the norm is for things to be thrown at you and for violence to be resorted to. . . .even after defeat.

I've never been to FL, but I have been hearing about their classless fans and fan abuse for years.

I remember back in the 80's seeing a friend who is a Tennessee fan wearing a Gators T-shirt while working out one day in the gym, and I asked him why he was wearing a Gators shirt. He told me he had gone to a Gators game in FL and people were throwing things at him and trying to start a fight with him, so he went to the concessions stand during the game and bought a Gators shirt to wear to get them off his back.

From what I hear, it is not a small group of people. There is a large group of FL fans that do this at their home games. The FL posters here can spin it all they want, but it does not happen at TN games. Again, we are not talking about a few bad apples as people have tried to spin it.

I agree that Florida fans are pretty bad, but your friend needs to grow a pair.

People go to games to have fun--not put their life in danger. My friend is a pretty big guy, so if he felt like he was in physical danger, I believe him. When you have a very large group of people wanting to get physical with you, it is a no win situation.

I don't blame him for protecting his safety, but I would not have worn the shirt to the gym. I would have wiped my ass with it and burned it.

Fact: if you can't handle being harrassed by fans you shouldn't go to away games.

Not even close. When my parents and grandparents are harassed it has crossed the line. That happened a few years ago when they went to the game with my brother (a UF student at the time).

You have clearly never stepped foot into the turd called Gainesville.
