Back From Bay Area Thoughts

Great comeback from somebody that can't discredit anything I said about Cutcliffe and how he handled last year's Florida game or this Saturday's Cal game. Your defense of Cutcliffe is weak.

Go to bed...

I never wanted Cutcliffe hired in the first place. However, if you weren't completely clueless, you'd find an appropriate example of his ineptitude rather than compiling a highlight list of his career. Against UK, Cutcliffe managed 17 or so points. That was one of the NCAA's worst defenses. Against UF, Cutcliffe creatively managed to keep UT in the lead for the majority of the game. That was against the NCAA's best defense. That touchdown pass Lucas Taylor threw was real conservative. Get lost.

You make the detractors of UT's current staff look bad with the drivel you spew all over this board.

The Lucas Taylor pass was a good call. The best call he had all year. Should I overlook the rest of the game and give him high marks on that one play call?

But the second half of that game was atrocious. Whether Fulmer told him to focus on the run at halftime is open for debate, but the fact is that there was a lot of vanilla in the second half of that game and d@mn well know it! Clueless would be to say that CDC "creatively managed" to keep UT ahead in that game. That's a euphormism for coached not to lose/played it close to the vest.

That's not creative, that's conservative.

Euphormism is a creative word. Hey TVA, engineers suck and lawyers rule.

1. David Cutcliffe should be ashamed of himself. I know our offense scored 31 points, and that's amazing considering it was one of the absolutely worst called games by an OC I've ever seen.

2. John Chavis should be ashamed of himself.

3. Cal should be ashamed of themselves. Pumping in sound effects and music while Tennessee is at the LOS is bush league, and I thought it was illegal. Guess not.

4. Cal fans should stop butchering the national anthem. IMO, you should never mess around with that song, no matter how clever you think it is.

5. Cal fans should take prozac. In the stadium, they ranked close to LSU-level bile. Outside the stadium, best I've dealt with. They showed their class in the 3rd quarter by chanting "overrated" right before we came back. They also chanted "Pac 10 Football!" the entire time Xavier Mitchell was down.

6. If the defense is not fixed, we'll lose upwards of 6 games.

7. I give Jackson credit for being electric on the PR, but there were 2 blocks in the back.

8. The PI call on Marsalous Johnson against Jackson was one of the worst PI calls ever

9. David Cutcliffe's call on 4th and goal was one of the worst I've seen

10. How many times did receivers run more than 2 yards short of the 1st down marker/GL? A crapton.

11. 47 passes? Are you kidding me?

12. San Francisco is an amazing city. I barely experienced the tip of the iceberg, and I loved the city. Pier 39 is amazing on your first visit.

13. David Cutcliffe's gameplan showed he had no confidence in our WRs. Somehow we had 31 points, which is unbelieveable.

14. The fumble recovery for a TD seemed like a clear cut forward throwing motion from where I was. I haven't watched my TIVO yet, so maybe they explain it.

15. Jarod Parrish shouldn't see the field again.

16. Lefty O'Doul's on Friday night was a blur for me. I know some of you were there.

1. I thought he called an okay game. He called a great game in the first quarter - taking what the defense was giving and pretty much scoring at will. This was followed by questionable pass plays near the GL in the second half of the game. For what it's worth, Cal fans wanted Dunbar (OC calling plays for us last year) fired after our first game last year. Lucky for us, Dunbar left to go to Minnesota, taking his soft spread offense with him.

2. Why? Everyone outside of Tennessee expected Cal to score often. I've met many Cal fans that were upset at the offense for not putting the game away in the third. That's the kind of expectations we have on the offense - with question marks on defense.

3. Those sounds you heard were coming from the speakers directed towards the audience. Cal has "Mic-Men" who lead cheers and try to get fans to make as much noise as possible. If it weren't for these guys (and girls), Memorial Stadium would sound like...well...nothing (our fans need guidance to be loud). The sound you were hearing was the crowd noise going back into the mics and coming out of the speakers towards the audience, not the players on the field.

4. This is a personal opinion. For those Vol fans who want to know what it's about. During 3 parts of the anthem, Cal fans yell another word in place of the orginal anthem.
1 - "Oh, say, can you see..." > "Oh, say, can U C!" (UC=University of California)
2 - "And the rockets red glare..." > "And the rockets BLUE! glare (our color versus Stanfurd's)
3 - "O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave." > "O'er the land of the free and the home of the BEARS!."

5. I was at the game sitting in the young-alumni section. I was cheering after the play and so were my friends around me. We were cheering because at that point the game was essentially over. We even watched the replay a couple times before we realized what had happened. As soon as we saw there was an injury, our whole section went silent. All I can say is that I'm sorry for that and hope Mitchell is okay, which I hear he will be.

6. Name 5 other teams on your schedule that has a better offense than Cal? I'm not saying it doesn't exist, I'm just really curious.

7. I've watched the replay 20 times now. And I could only find 1 block in the back. However, it did not affect the outcome of the play. Here is the YouTube link YouTube - Cal Football - Desean Jackson Punt Return TD vs Tennessee
at :15 you will see a Vol player come flying into the picture - the result of what probably was a block in the back. But in my opinion, that player probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere near DJax. I can definitely understand how the refs might have missed that call, given, that I had to watch the replay in slowmo 20 times to find it.

8. Agreed. DJax was using his hands as much as Johnson. Only Johnson wasn't looking at the ball -still should've been a no call. But worst PI ever? Really? Ohio State v Miami NC game comes to mind.

9. Agree 100%.

10. Good defense? Just maybe?...nm.

11. Agreed.

12. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

13. It worked for the most part in the first half. Same passes went for TDs last year.

14. Lateral pass.

15. Who? I guess I just made your point.

16. Hope you had fun there at least.

I was in the student section, and Forsett's run was huge, it pretty much wrapped up the game, which is why everyone was so excited. You don't understand how much this game meagnt to us after being embarassed last season. I think we were chanting PAC 10 football for like 2 minutes, ksushalovesthevol claims it was 7 minutes, which is completley ridiculous, I know by the time that we saw the Tennesee players praying on the sideline something was serious, and I know nothing was being said, so don't challenge that, I know we were not chanting for more then 3 minutes much less 7 or 8. And CALTL is pretty much spot on with all of his comments.

That is what i have been told too. The mike man, like the idiot most mike mens are, didn't notice the player was down. I'm told some students actually told him to shut up. I know my fans and NO WAY would they cheer and chant if they knew a player was down. NEVER. You guys can have your own opinion, but in this case you are 100% wrong.

I do apologize for people being jerks. Hopefully there were enough nice fans to make up for it.

Congrats Golden Bear 4 life:thumbsup:

:good!: I have no problem with people that know what they're talking about bashing the current coaching staff (VIA, Hatvol, Lexvol, Rexvol, Stunna etc) but the idiotic statements Rasputin/TVA spew forth make everyone on here look bad. Please quit TVA

UT doesn't have the kind offense to put up 45+ points a game.

Cal ran all over UT and their running game is average by SEC standards. The Dline and special teams were a problem last year and the coaching staff spent all fall and spring working on it.

They didn't improve much over the course of last season. I dont think the next 6 weeks are going to make that much improvement this year either.

8. The PI call on Marsalous Johnson against Jackson was one of the worst PI calls ever

Thank God someone else thought this!

It wasn't against Johnson it was against Karl. That's why it was only at the 16 yard line of Cal after they enforced the penalty. If it would have been against Johnson it would have been a 15 yarder.

Yeah that was a little generous. About the punt return, I didn't see an obvious block in the back and the video posted doesn't show it either. I wasn't at the game though.

You were the better team (obvious) and played a great game, especially on offense and special teams!

There is no shortage of rude and/or obnoxious fans at UT so I wouldn't be worried about comments on Cal fans. I've seen opposing fans treated very poorly at UT many times and we're definitely one of the friendlier crowds in the SEC (FL & LSU are borderline dangerous places to travel). It's hard to say about the cheering and chanting while X was on the ground but I choose to believe that very few people would puposefully cheer while a player is down and potentially paralyzed.

UT will have a good season if we can bring our defense back to it's normal level, quit throwing short of the down marker on third down and start taking more risks with the ball like every other team in college football. Ball control and field position are important but make you too predictable when they become your edict.

Cal ran all over UT and their running game is average by SEC standards.

I'm not so sure about that. Our defense truly sucked, but there was no doubt that Cal was a much more physical team than the one we beat up on last season.

Tedford knows how to run the ball. We do not have an average running game. Tedford's averaged almost 5 yards a carry for his career against USC. ANd we have at least 2 if not 3, future NFL lineman and best and forsett are both studs.

now everyone thinks cut's play calling is pathetic. at least its not as predictable as randy sanders run, run, screen pass, punt. ya'll are ridiculous

Hey droski.I read on espn where your qb said you'll just thumped us.I can remember being down by 7 points in the fourth quarter.Your boys can't claim the same thing last year.I'll i can remember is phil calling off the dogs when it was 35 nothing.

I think UT plays at least 3 teams with better running games, GA, FL, and Arkansas.

what's the actual quote? obviously your win was far more lopsided.

I don't know that I'd call UGA an elite rushing attack either. They aren't bad, but I don't think they are necessarily any better than Cal.

In the bigger picture, I thought that your offense was much improved from last year and that it shows signs of getting better. Ainge looked good and as the receivers mature you should see even more production out of the O. I think the playcalling is more adventurous.

Face it. The problem right now is defense and special teams. It wasn't just a bad scheme, it was lack of speed and talent (with Berry being an exception). You can fix the scheme, you can't manufacture players.
