Back From Bay Area Thoughts

1. David Cutcliffe should be ashamed of himself. I know our offense scored 31 points, and that's amazing considering it was one of the absolutely worst called games by an OC I've ever seen.

2. John Chavis should be ashamed of himself.

3. Cal should be ashamed of themselves. Pumping in sound effects and music while Tennessee is at the LOS is bush league, and I thought it was illegal. Guess not.

4. Cal fans should stop butchering the national anthem. IMO, you should never mess around with that song, no matter how clever you think it is.

5. Cal fans should take prozac. In the stadium, they ranked close to LSU-level bile. Outside the stadium, best I've dealt with. They showed their class in the 3rd quarter by chanting "overrated" right before we came back. They also chanted "Pac 10 Football!" the entire time Xavier Mitchell was down.

6. If the defense is not fixed, we'll lose upwards of 6 games.

7. I give Jackson credit for being electric on the PR, but there were 2 blocks in the back.

8. The PI call on Marsalous Johnson against Jackson was one of the worst PI calls ever

9. David Cutcliffe's call on 4th and goal was one of the worst I've seen

10. How many times did receivers run more than 2 yards short of the 1st down marker/GL? A crapton.

11. 47 passes? Are you kidding me?

12. San Francisco is an amazing city. I barely experienced the tip of the iceberg, and I loved the city. Pier 39 is amazing on your first visit.

13. David Cutcliffe's gameplan showed he had no confidence in our WRs. Somehow we had 31 points, which is unbelieveable.

14. The fumble recovery for a TD seemed like a clear cut forward throwing motion from where I was. I haven't watched my TIVO yet, so maybe they explain it.

15. Jarod Parrish shouldn't see the field again.

16. Lefty O'Doul's on Friday night was a blur for me. I know some of you were there.

14. The fumble recovery for a TD seemed like a clear cut forward throwing motion from where I was. I haven't watched my TIVO yet, so maybe they explain it.

It was a forward motion, but the ball went backwards. When you see the replay you'll see that it wasn't really that questionable.

P.S. - I'm hoping this is a random list and that your #1 concern coming out of that game wasn't the offensive playcalling. There were a few questionable calls, but . . . .

The second half of the Florida game last year was no better... but but but, Cutcliffe is an offensive genius. He coached Peyton and Eli... whatever.

There were no calls in that game that cost us a win. The ball went backwards and there was no doubt about the touchdown ruling in my eyes.

You're right. I guess my biggest problem with the punt return is that every time I turn it to sports station or ESPN I see that PR and deep down I know it's a farce. Just tired of seeing it.

The blocks in the back aren't what got Jackson open... it was our overpursuit on the coverage that got him open. You could see the blocks developing as Jackson made his way around the mass of human debris and broke free.

i was there, between the injured player and the cal section. this is a lie and you know it. they chanted the majority of the time that he was down, stopping only about a minute before he was carried off.

No, that was not the clip, that was legal. McCoy gets blocked in the back after that and then two blocks later someone gets the most obvious clip. I didn't see the latter until I watched the PF show, which was a different camera angle.

To their credit, they did eventually shut up . . . but it was a lot longer than a few seconds because I was sitting there wondering what was taking them so long to shut up and show some class. To tell you how long it was, there was time for the play to end and Fulmer to walk all the way across the field after the trainer had evaluated the situation.

Momentum is an important word in college football...and punt returns are of of the most valuable agents when it comes to momentum.
