B.J. Coleman

I remember that. Cutcliffe said something to the effect of "BJ Coleman was the best QB on the team."

well there were really only 2 and he never like JC for some reason. Cut just wanted another he could try and mold into a Manning (like they wouldn't have made it anyway)

his wining about how the staff wasn't fair at UT and he wasn't going to get a real shot. IIRC he later backtracked after he cooled off but the damage was done.

geez I hope not

I thought there was something I didn't hear when all that happened. I just listened to the interview again. He said "in my opinion", stated how he felt, what he thought, thought they wanted to go in a different direction, etc. None of it was whining. It was his perception of the situation.

I don't recall any "damage" either.

(Hope this isn't coming off as arguing, just isn't much else to talk about right now. And everybody is being civil for a change!! Happy Valentine's Day!)

Thanks mom

Whether or not he plays on Sundays is only one factor in the argument. Is he going to make more money in one year than most of us will in a lifetime? Yes. Would this money have been available if he were sitting on the bench at UT? No. The end. Crompton isn't playing on Sundays, but he still got a few mil.

Haters gonna hate.

Most ignorant and overused phrase used in today's message boards.

By me saying he will never see any meaningful time in the NFL doesn't make me a hater. By me saying he will be lucky to make a team doesn't make me a hater.

nah not arguing just discussing. :)

If a TN kid leaves the program and tells all the media he isn't getting a fair shake from the coaches, they lied, etc then that can affect the program. He realized it after he calmed down and that kinda proved it to me.

He claimed to want to compete and win yet he had the opportunity and balked. Sure he did what he thought he needed to do but don't claim to be a competitor and then jet when you don't get your way.

After watching his short performance in the Vandy game I honestly didn't ever want to see him on the field again

The staff he was dealing with wasn't exactly known for being upfront and honest. And I'm not saying that hindsight....I supported the whole rotten bunch cause I thought they were gonna bring in wins. But I never saw integrity or honest as one of their strong suits.

When did I call you a hater?

My post wasn't even directed at you. I've never read a post of yours until now.

I quoted DJCrenshaw when I wrote that, not you.

All he had to do was stick around and compete.

Guess Troy should have stayed at Okl. or Brandon at UT or Suggs at UT or Malik at USC or Wilson at NC State or any number of other non-competitive losers who transferred schools.

It's funny how guys are judged. How many games did Coleman play in like 2? He was a freshman & made mistakes like they all do but he sucked. On the flip side Bray sucked as a freshman but because he was a supposed big time recruit he was just taking his freshman lumps.

BJ Coleman has been getting all kinds of love with the draft analysts lately...kinda makes you wonder, what if? What would've happened if Coleman had stayed at UT? Would Bray still be a household name in Knoxville, or would Coleman have taken the spotlight?
Coleman left way too early. He should have stayed tight through the fall...doors would've opened wide for him. He knew he was better than Stephens, and Simm's would've never stepped onto the field if Coleman had not been so impatient.

Could've been a much better team both years.

They were pretty equally rated recruits coming out of HS actually. And I dont think Bray sucked as a feshman at all. Of course he made mistakes but he got in there and immediately started slinging the ball and showing off his arm talent.

He pretty much was outstanding.

Whatever. Not gonna debate with idiots. He made some good plays & a lot of dumb plays. Pick against UT Martin. First pass I believe was a pick 6 at USCjr & another pick. A pick that ultimately cost us the bowl game. Simms who really sucks took most of the abuse against the better teams & Bray got eased in at the end to finish of the scrubs.

On a side note don't you love that the same crowd calling Coleman a quiter are the ones saying Kiffin just did what was best for himself and his family.

Their moves were not the same.
When Kiffin went to USC, he was offered a job while he had another job. When Coleman left Tennessee, it wasn't to go to Chattanooga. It was to try and find somewhere else. Kiffin received a job offer that was better and with a higher pay. Coleman landed at a lower level because that's the only place that would take him.

Making comparisons between their moves makes me think you don't understand what happened. Kiffin didn't quit a job because he didn't want to work there anymore. He left the job because he was offered a better job with a pay raise. Coleman left because he was considered not good enough, and every other school on the D1 level agreed.

The only similarities between the two moves is that both left Tennessee. The similarities end there.

I remember that. Cutcliffe said something to the effect of "BJ Coleman was the best QB on the team."

Then proceeded to shun BJ as the head coach at Duke. It was easy for Cut to talk the talk, but when it came time to pony up a scholly for Boleman, Cut just couldn't bring himself to do it.
