Azzani to Maryland?

Azzani has been a great recruiter and ambassador for the program, however at some point you need to see results. Given the underwhelming production of elite WR recruits (North, Malone, Pearson..) its difficult to get excited about anyone we are recruiting at that position for 2016.

Again where are you guys seeing that Azzanni is a great recruiter? He is ranked 38th in the SEC and 124th nationally..in comparison Tee Martin is ranked number 1
Zach Azzanni, Wide Receivers Coach (FB), Tennessee Volunteers
Tee Martin, Wide Receivers Coach (FB), USC Trojans

You do realize that

(a) those are based on one recruiting season,
(b) that one recruiting season isn't over till February, and
(c) #124 is out of something like 1,300

Right?

Also, Tee Martin isn't walking through that door any time soon. With Clay Helton promoted to HC at USC, Martin is likely staying in LA.

I don't get the hate for Tee. So what if Butch offered him a job a couple years ago and he turned it down? That's not disrespecting your alma mater, it's just doing what you thought was best for you at the time.

It's not so much that he turned the school down, it's the way he went about it. He was very public and just wasn't very diplomatic in the process. I know many on here won't understand that but he kinda burned some bridges with the way he handled the whole thing. I'll be really surprised if he gets any discussion.

Hinshaw people.... He was a good recruiter for us given the Fooley Era.... He was a solid X and O's guy.

Careful what you wish for.

Azzanni has been one of our best recruiters and has been integral to our success in many ways. While the passing game might've underperformed for a good chunk of the season, there were a lot of different factors for that (injuries and suspensions at WR, Dobbs' accuracy, O-line issues early in the season). While I certainly think it's fair to hold ZA accountable for some of the issues, I wouldn't ignore the fact that he's done a heck of a lot to improve this program. And even if the passing game didn't work smoothly till the Vandy game, our WRs have been excellent at blocking (an underrated reason for our success).

If he does leave for an OC position, I wish him the best, and hope Butch can find a great replacement.

DG you posts are always well stated.

Very true. But also he was hurt back when he wasn't allowed around the stadium or players when he was being investigated after he was already gone from TN. That bothered him back then and probably still holds some bad feelings about that. Of course he was cleared of it all and we avoided probation. But he wasn't happy with how he was treated by his school during the investigation.

This has an awful same feeling as bajakian did. Frankly he didn't run power scheme it took butch 2 years to figure out we need in the sec. My opinion is an opinion and that he's told to pursue other options like jake. Does everyone remember all noise bout our wrs not happy and talking transfers due to lack of development and lack of like for azzani

CZA was also responsible for special teams, right??? Especially punt teams. Can't remember a time where we were MORE sound in regards to ST than this past year. Phenomenal job by CZA!

No, only partially true. Elder is the Special Teams coach. For the first time this season, Jones mentioned that Azzanni is in charge of one of the return teams (either punt or kickoff teams), don't recall which. So, while he should certainly get credit for his role in coordinating a very successful return team, it doesn't absolve him from the very poor job he's done the as the WRs coach and Passing game coordinator IMO.

As I (along with others) have been defending the progress made by this team and staff, it's remained a constant that the WR corp has under-performed when compared alongside the wealth of talent present...and in comparison to the notable improvement of all the other units...on both sides of the LOS. The most apparent consistency of this squad of ball catchers has been their LACK of grit and sustained efforts. IE, they're just not really getting after it when it's just gotta' be done. IMHO Butch isn't going to enter 2016 with an anemic compilation of game-killing drops and busted assignments. I'm sure most of us saw this coming soon after Oklahoma. I'm hoping Tee comes home, so let's shut up the negavollishness!

Elder coached the special teams.
