LOL... I saw my first game at Neyland in the late 1970's. I remember the cup throwing. Gotta say, that was pretty annoying.

I would have to disagree. The late 70's and the even years of 80's we were not that that good but the Vol Nation came in there pumped and excited and believed we could win every game. Sorry there is a difference in the Vol Nation between now and then for what ever reason.

I was at the 2006 Cal game where one Pac-10 Team showed up without a clue about the stadium, noise factor, etc. The Vols were coming off a brutal 5-win season and were fired up for the opener. We jumped to a quick 5 TD lead. The Titans current TE (former Cal Bear) got KO'd and out for the game on the opening kick-off. On that hit our entire section was yelling SEC.

Oregon is a much better team than that Cal team, and we are in no way going to be jumping on a huge lead in the 1st. That said, I think the noise will be a factor and our fans will show up. I think our D keeps us in this. Bought 4 tickets earlier this week and look forward to it.

I believe Football is won and lost more on emotion than any other team sport, so the atmosphere does have an effect on opposing teams, especially those who haven't been here. But if Oregon is a better football team than UT, that effect will be muted after the first quarter. If Tennessee can hang in there until the 4th quarter the atmosphere can make the difference, but I just don't know yet if the talent is here. I hope it is, and I hope the rest of the world knows that next Sunday!

Exactly. Normally the stadium is loud when it is a tight game, we score or make a big play or we hold their offense from scoring, etc... If Oregon comes in and starts racking up the points, the stadium will get quiet except for the boo birds who always show up. Hope we have a good fast start or it might be a long day.:good!:

Neyland is the loudest place that I have ever been in my life at times... but if Oregon runs straight down the field on their first possesion and scores the crowd will not be a factor for the rest if the game.

I disagree...our fans have always loved the underdog role it seems....they are the most apathetic when the vols are expect to win....it damn near takes a grazing cleavage shot to get a rise out of them....but saturday should be no problem.

All of those, except for Purdue, were big games. The Purdue game was played in the high humidity. The Michigan game was played in front of 100,000+ fans. Every game between USC is huge and when you play them at the Coliseum their are over 90,000 fans. The Arizona game last year was the ESPN game of the week, Gameday was there and at the time it was for the Rose Bowl.
So what I think coach kelly was getting at is that we have played in big games with a lot on the line and chances are we aren't going to be phased as much by the HUGE stadium as you think we will be.
In terms of nerves this game is a walk in the park compared to the Double OT Arizona game, Civil War last year and the Rose Bowl.
Not to say this isn't a big game but win or lose this game we can still go to a BCS game by winning our conference.

I'm happy he's taking this approach. He's gonna be shocked when he sees 103,000 plus of orange and white screaming in muggy temps. This could be huge for us. He hasn't seen a real SEC stadium yet!

Once the game gets going, the only people who hear the crowd r the guys on the sidelines. It might effect them if the game is close at the end, but that will just be about getting their plays called. I don't think it will bother them too much other than that.

what's UTs all-time won/loss record at home? Checked up on our series and thur 21 games at Neyland Georgia sports a 9-11-1 record....not to shabby considering the 1989-1999 streak where we lost 5 in a row there.

definitely one of the top most intiminating stadiums to play in....103k in a sea of orange......as long as you vols are winning. been lucky enough to have seen stunned silence there a time or two.

going to be something else if the ducks come out in those lime greens next to that UT orange.

Actually, we've been focusing on SEC teams more. It use to be we always played Big-10 teams as a tradition, sort of part of the Rose Bowl tie in. We did play home and home with Miss St a couple years ago (2-0). Then we scheduled Tennessee home and home. We also have home and home scheduled with Georgia coming up. Also, granted it's not played at LSU, but we open next year with LSU in Dallas.

Quite frankly, from a PAC-10 perspective, Tennessee is the only SEC team that seems willing to do home and home with PAC-10 schools on a regular basis. I give the Vols a lot of credit for being willing to do that.

Now Florida on the other hand, I don't think they've left the state for an OOC game in decades.
