What an awesome year of excitement. We did things this year that we haven't done in a long long time. Weve got great momentum. Finish out beating the socks off Vanderbilt and move on to a big bowl game with some excitement on New Year's. A great win there and recruiting picks up! With a great fan base behind it we could accomplish a very good year, with even more to build on!

Always improving! Go Vols!!

I'm not so optimistic.

2016 was THE year. The schedule was favorable and the roster was finally deep enough to compete in the SEC. I have more questions going into 2017 than 2016 provided answers for. I think Shoop looks less and less like a home run hire with each passing game and in year 4 of Butch Jones our offensive schemes are still on Butch's Cincinatti AAC level. I think we've lost a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail and we saw some massive attrition this season at the skill positions. We're recruiting like an Arkansas instead of a LSU and i don't think this coaching staff has proved that the can coach up players (insert Emmanual Mosely.)

Breaking in a new QB going to UF and going to Bama and getting LSU at home is less than ideal...We Georgia'd 2016.

And on top of that our coach has become a national sound bite for us having the consolation prize of 'winning at life' because we failed to meet expectations and win the East.

Happy Thanksgiving

Some fair point, but I dont think the scehdule was "favorable" to be considered "THE" year. That four game stretch was rough and most reasonable people said theh would be happy with going 2-2 during it, which we did.
USC lose was bad, but I think it was more of a culmination of (last four games, buying in to the "easy win out" hype, Hurd distraction and bad play) than it is an indictment on our coaching staff.

No doubt the defense has to improve, but our Offense has proven effective and I think we will be fine there.

On being an exciting year, yes it was.

BOB was awesome experience for my little boy and I.
Florida game had us running through the back yard screaming, neighbors thinking we were crazy.
For the A and M game, I was watching at Bass Pro in Memphis and literally lost the feeling in my hands during overtime.

If we beat Vandy and have a good show at Sugat / Citrus bowl, I say this was a good year.

It's a game of inches and what ifs, right? What if we had not self destructed and played just a little cleaner at ATM? What if we had shown up at USCe? What if we had played Bama a good bit healthier and lost by a couple TDs? All of these scenarios were literally inches from a reality of closing 11-1 and getting Bama again with our newfound Hurdless offense in Atl with a playoff birth on the line.

Then cant you also say "what if" this coaching staff can clean up these mistakes, field a team that has good chemistry and it the 11-12 win mark next season? I think they deserve that chance.

Shoop hasn't had a whole lot to work with defensively this season due to the injuries. The 2-deep was essentially gutted at every position other than DE to the point we were depending on 3rd and 4th stringers, DEs and walkons being used at DT. I won't judge Shoop based on what he has had to juggle from week to week this season. I did, however, see him beat the Gators without the services of 3 All-SEC players, 3 of the 4 players he said before the season he could not lose, so I know the man knows what he is doing.

Breaking in a new QB going to UF and going to Bama and getting LSU at home is less than ideal...We Georgia'd 2016.

UF and LSU will both also be breaking in new QBs.

Also, the good thing about next year's schedule is there is no equivalent of this year's 4-game SEC gauntlet. The toughest stretch we have in '17 is SC (home), then Bama (away), then UK (away). Much easier than UF, UGA (away), TAMU (away), then Bama all in a 4-week stretch.

And on top of that our coach has become a national sound bite for us having the consolation prize of 'winning at life' because we failed to meet expectations and win the East.

Happy Thanksgiving

Which will have zero effect on how Team 121 plays on the field.

And a Happy Thanksgiving to you as well as the rest of Vol Nation.

I agree, though patience has never been VN's strong suit.

Schedule was favorable? WTF...we had literally the toughest schedule in the country.

Plus all the injuries. Take your head out of the oven, it's not that bad. :hi:

Getting your two biggest rivals at home and swapping Oklahoma for Virginia Tech is about as favorable as it gets in the SEC.

Next year swap Georgia Tech for Virginia Tech and who cares where we play Florida, we own that ass now.

Doesn't matter where we play bammer either, we played much better down there last year than in Neyland this year.

In regards to Florida, don't be ridiculous. In regards to bama, it won't matter until Saban retires

Schedule not favorable????? They only left the state of Tennessee 3 freaking times!!!!! Florida and Georgia are horrible teams. Tennessee played 2 tough games the whole year and lost both.

We own UF now? Lol.

I guess that means SC owns us now then.
