1)4th Quarter, down by 10...lets stick Vinson in for his first snaps of the game

2)4th Quarter, down by 7...lets stick O'Neil in for his first snaps of the game

Come on!!! If these kids were not ready to be in the game up to that point then why in the hell are we putting them in when we are trying to claw our way back?!?!?!? Rogers, Taylor, and Briscoe proved through the first three quarters that they were capable of catching the ball.

3)We are down by 14 with 8 minutes to go, Cal has the ball. Gee, I wonder what they might do...Could it possibly be RUN THE BALL!? Hello!?!?! Fulmer, Chavis you are college coaches! For the love of God act like it. When in doubt, open up your copy of College Football for Dummies to Chapter 8: Clock Management. You might find some tips on how to defend a team that has a lead and the ball late in the 4th!!!

This is a new disturbing trend in our play.At that time of the game our defense had quit.I have now seen this more times than i want to.Man if we had trouble against cal.Just think of that spread option in two weeks.Heck southern miss isn't going to be a cake walk either.

1. Maybe they were looking for a spark because those 3 receivers aren't capable of getting open or beating anyone downfield? Vinson DID get mauled on his play and O'Neal was scared of getting hit on his.....

2. Did it ever occur to you that they DID try to stop the run, but COULDN'T? haha That's usually what happens when the other team is better than you that night.

Tennessee has not tackled well since 1999. Sorry, but it;s true. That is the one thing I am sick of seeing. I can deal w/ being a lesser team and the like, but when we flat out miss basic tackles it irks me to no end.

I wonder how many times people will spell this guys name wrong while he's a UT? BTW, 2000th post.

I will agree that Cal was getting away w/ extra bumps of the wideouts. But the newbies needed to run through those bumps to get the calls. They were pushed off their routes way too easily.

The better question:

If all we were going to do is run those hitch passes, why do we need experienced receivers in the game for that?

Before you answer Ohio, I know...it is because they have sooo many checks. Don't care. At this point UT better find their fastest athletes and get them on the field.

On both sides of the ball, it looked like we were racing donkeys against race hores all night.

Couldn't have said it better.

I only agree with the 3rd item in the original post. I would have brought Vinson or O Neal in much earlier in the game. The only wideout that played alot last night that showed gamebreaking ability was Lucas Taylor. Vinson streaked downfield on two plays and would have been open if he had not been held/interfeared with.

Cal was clearly the better prepared team tonight.

They are not better prepared, but better, offensively more complete and potent.

At the time, I remember Herbstritt starts to brag about Tedford's play calling. I am wondering what kind of play he needs to call right? run-run-toss/screen. Even high school coach knows how to "call the play" at this time.

Yeah ,i heard that too and was thinking the same thing. It isn't hard to look smart against our defensive scheme.I have been a chavis supporter in the past. But the lack of tackling is exactly why he shouldn't still be there, phil either for that matter. They fire chavis, they should get rid of phil to.
