What is your average speed on the interstate? Does it fluctuate with different speed limits? Do you go 5 or 10 mph over the posted limit? Are you one of the people always going 5 mph slower than the posted limit in the left lane? Let's hear it.

i average about 7-10 over the posted speed limit. Only about 5 over when I'm coming down I-81 in your neck of the woods OWB. Too much po po presence trying to get me.

I would say I'm a 80 to 85er with bursts of 90. I have my car set to alert me when I go over 90.

The Wytheville area is famous for radar. However lately, they have moved west about 50 miles. Or on 81, I guess I should say they moved south.

I used to run 90+ all the time. Now, usually +5 over the posted limit. Speed limits here are 65 mph-80mph.

That's quite a change in driving style. What's the cause of that? Age? Too many tickets?

If I'm not in a hurry 10 over. In a rush 15 maybe 20. Driving to Charleston, sc this summer I got in with 10 other cars and hit triple digits.

I hate people that go 20 over but slow to 5 under whenever they see a police crossover.

Why don't folks just leave earlier and drive the speed limit?
I personally am kind of addicted to making good time. I can't stand just going 70, especially on I-81. If you go the speed limit on 81, the truckers will eat you alive.

That's the best. Unless you're in the front or the very back.

75 in a 70 mph zone ..

~65 on I-40 thru knoxville

btw, I have seen unmarked vehicles (seems like most trucks) giving tickets between farragut and papermill ... in reality, you really have to be trying to get a ticket in all that traffic ...

yeah... you can get away with murder while it's the 3 lane 81/77 combo (always found it interesting that you're going south on 81 and north on 77 at the same time), but once you hit Wytheville, state troopers are out in force. But I've noticed lots of local yocals in Marion/Abingdon and all the way down to Bristol.

I am grateful that VA finally bumped up the speed limit to 70. 65 was a killer.

I think age may be the bigger factor. I did the 90+ mph living in SoCal. Gotta do that to keep up. There are a lot more traffic fatalities in Utah than about anywhere I've lived before. Also, had get used to driving slower in local neighborhoods due to everyone out playing, riding bikes, skateboards, walking, jogging, etc. Age/lifestyle, I would guess.

5-7 over usually, sometimes 10. Depends on traffic. I used to just go with the flow of traffic, but that ticket I got from the good ol' KPD made me stop that.

Well, there's a State Police headquarters in Wytheville, that's why Wytheville has always been a huge radar trap. As for the locals on down towards Marion, they're getting paid overtime to run radar now. The Governor was driving in that area a while back and was "shocked" as to how fast people were driving there. Or so the story goes anyway.

Now they've added all these new police crossovers throughout the state. Virginia has to be on of the worst when it comes to radar.

So true. Also watch from Roanoke to Lexington, VA especially 1st 15 miles past Roanoke. Its just as bad as Wytheville to Marion or Abingdon to Bristol.

5-10mph over. I had too many tickets when I was a minor. Then I got one when I was 19 and had to pay so that slowed me down quite a bit.
