I did a little research on his role at LSU last night. He is one of 2 schools in the country that employ a position like his at LSU. His position is HUGE for recruiting because he basically serves as a GM of the football team, which allows him to serve as a liaison to the NFL for players on the team. One of his main job duties is to work with Pro teams to get LSU players a job in the league. He sells this to recruits and it's a big dang deal for a lot of them because that's their main goal when it's all said and done. If he really comes to UT that's a big dang deal.
It's a big deal on many levels.

LSU recruits itself, same as Bama, FSU. GA, etc.

No school recruits itself better than the University of Tennessee! There are several universities that tend to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to prospect's, but by no means does the school itself recruit Top Notch Talent! If that were the case, UT would have a top 3 recruiting class every single year without the coaches even setting foot on the recruiting Trail. JMO

No school “recruits itself”. Name the school and I can name a down period they have suffered and it’s usually due to bad talent evaluations and poor recruiting .

Knowing “who not to recruit” is often as important as who you recruit. That’s what Thomas does.

Any more actual news on this happening?

The last I saw was a FootballScoop update that said there was chatter going on about this but that they are unaware of any offer and he's still working for LSU.

Lol right, I get LSU is a great school with history too, but the thing about Thomas is he was pulling in recruits outside of Louisiana. He also took a couple Tennessee boys from us.

That was my point. The other poster suggesting that these guys don't have to work to recruit is ridiculous.

Correct. Modern history LSU recruits itself, but see TaM and Aub rise, and Coach O lose ground, and they will be in the UT realm of coach churning. I think w/ Mullen and Pruitt, UGA, and even SC trending, that more parity is coming back to SEC division power balance.

I think he's a player personnel guy that's in charge of recruiting just like Bama and Florida's guys. As far as going on the road recruiting I am pretty sure I read that Floridas Player Personnel guy Drew Hughes has been on the road recruiting also the last three years because they were down a coach for various reasons. If you get prior approval from the SEC and NCAA the Director of Player Personnel can go on the recruiting trail otherwise they are restricted to on campus recruiting. I am also told that CJP knows Hughes as well from their time at Bama.

Please tell us why we are having difficulty in recruiting if the name Tennessee sell itself. I don't recall very many 5* recruits knocking down our doors. I believe there's a bit more to how the recruiting game works.
